It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
11-11-11 is a pre-apocalyptic horror-mystery, about an atheistic author named Joseph- who suffers a series of tragedies which he begins to notice all orient around the number 11:11.First, a rabid fan of his writing burns down his house on November 11- killing his wife and daughter. Then, he gets in a major car accident which occurs at 11:11. An accident which should of killed him, but which he walks away from without a scratch. Later, when he travels to Barelona to visit his father upon his deathbed, he reunites with his estranged brother, Samuel- a devout, ordained priest. Samuel shows him security footage of an odd mist...which also just so happens to manifest at 11:11. It's at this point that he starts to see demonic-type beings everywhere. Is this all in his head, or is something beyond his comprehension trying to send him a message? He looks the phenomenon up online and finds that other people are in very similar situations. Apparently, if you experience this phenomenon, you have been marked to be the receiver of a message from entities known as the "Midwayers"- who often deliver their messages through hallucinations.Ironically, as he starts to look more into the occult, Joseph becomes more convinced that supernatural causes are responsible for the events in his life; while his extremely religious brother takes on the role of the skeptic. It's only when there father snaps out of his senility, that Joseph discovers why this is all going on. Apparently, Samuel is the Prophet of a new age, and fate has made it his mission to protect him from the evil forces that plan on sacrificing him on 11-11-11...in order to bring about the Rapture.Samuel is a paraplegic, of supposed immaculate conception, and a popular Priest for a dwindling congregation. Considering everything that has been going on in his life, Joseph is ready to buy into all the claims, and will do whatever needs to be done to protect him. However, when it all goes down on 11-11-11 at 11:11...it's not at all how he expected it to be...---SPOILER---...he reigns in the anti-Christ...ha! If you read that spoiler, I wouldn't be too worried about it because this film is mediocre at best. While the demons are pretty cool, I guess (at least they aren't CGI). It's quite simply constructed, and a *flashback of sudden realization* lays it all out for you, in the end...so you don't have to do any of the work thinking about it. But I guess that speaks to the market toward which this film is directed. Gets a "meh" from me.3.5 out of 10.
After the death of his wife and child, an author travels to Barcelona to see his estranged brother and dying father, where he learns that his life is plagued by events that occur on 11/11/11.This film comes from the mind and eye of Darren Lynn Bousman, one of the modern masters of horror. The movie as a whole did not do that well and one review called it "uninspired". I will say this criticism is not warranted. While not his best work, this is by no means a terrible film.We have a great Kathy Bates reference, and even Urantia is worked into the plot (which may be the first time I have ever seen that). The film was most popular in Brazil and Russia, for reasons that are unclear to me -- it could easily have been a minor hit right here in the states... why was it not?
First of all, anyone who has ever lost a child needs to stay the hell away from this movie. For real. It's harsh. This movie premise had potential. But it promptly derailed into WTF country. First, the soundtrack. The overly intense, Latin chanting filled, LOUD, and ever so dramatic music just ruined any creepy factors. The music was DAH-DAAAAAAHing nonstop. Also, how was it that Joe couldn't speak Spanish? How do you manage to grow up in Spain and not learn even basic tourist Spanish? And then poor Joe just kept seeing Emperor Palpatine everywhere. The twist was super predictable. At the church service, when his brother got all creepy and looked at him (amidst lurking Sith Lords), I was shrugged and went "Oh, he's the anti-Christ", but the OMG TWIST really was botched.Sadie was about the most pointless character.
This movie is one big bore. I sat it out but the story is pretty vague. The only thing what makes this movie worth watching is the fact that it can be classified as a "Religious Thriller" in which the 11.11 phenomenon plays the leading part. For some dark reason the movie plot seems familiar, like as in: Why the heck does it seem so familiar? Haven't I seen this movie before? Good chance you might have. For all I know it could very well be released back in the 90's under another title...I dare you to sit it out...Because no spectacular things are happening in it.It is not filmed in Hollywood style with tons of (CGI)effects. Instead of that the makers tried to keep the movie, acting and subject small yet prominently playing a part thru the whole movie. Good thing 'cause otherwise there wouldn't even BE a movie.Plot line: Thin. Acting: Seen better. Effects: Poor and clearly, visibly applied.
