One of my all time favorites.
Good concept, poorly executed.
It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
There were lots of complaints about this film when I checked reviews before I watched it. But I watched it anyway, since the overall plot is one I would normally like. It was better, on all fronts, than most of the complaints I read. I've seen worse acting, worse writing, and worse effects in movies that got better reviews. This is actually a relatively entertaining movie to watch on a weekend morning when you are looking for something to put on while working on projects. The pacing is good enough to keep you mentally engaged. While nothing is very original or at a level that would win any awards, the acting and writing is good enough to keep you entertained while your hands are busy with other tasks. I nearly wanted to give it a seven just to try to counter some of the lower scores that I think it didn't deserve. But I resisted and gave it a 6. It really isn't a 7 but I feel it is much better than a 5.
You've got all your talking points. Greedy corporations; ignorant, gullible religious people who are so "economically desperate they will believe anything" (read "cling to their guns and bibles); radio station with a preacher talking about Jesus providing food for your table and bullets for your guns; smarmy liberals chuckling smugly over those impossibly ignorant flyover folks.Liberals should not be allowed to make movies that are not based in Hollywood or NYC. It's amazing to me how wrong they get it when they make movies about religion - Christians in particular. But then again, they exist in an echo chamber, and no new knowledge can squeeze in.
I love Hillary Swank......we all do. This film, regardless of the medium level content was pure and simply: a showcase for Hillary Swanks body....not her acting as the action over shadowed any real acting. It's an action film, an in-credible, boring film all only about Hillary's skin tight clothes. I enjoyed that but it got old after a short time. She must have better scripts!!!!! The script is absurd and the acting all around is mediocre. Every scene is designed around Hillary Swank's body. She acts in a minimal way as the absurd action does not really allow for even one good monologue or real acting. I didn't understand why "Hollywood" can't find better films for A TWO TIME Oscar WINNER.
not a bad film at all, i was expecting a terrible film about a possessed girl and some biblical malarkey but i enjoyed the story and it got really good towards the end, i say towards the end because... SPOILER!!! the ending kinda of ruined it because everything goes OK and then *boom* bombshell, sad face, credits the end. it's almost as if it has left the audience thinking there is a sequel, good thriller and although not the best film i've seen (obviously fight club or pulp fiction, check them out!!) definitely worth the watch! :)this film greatly shows the mark of modern horror/thriller films (instead of the human centipede or other disturbing films) it shows that there is still creativity out there and that there can be a decent storyline and script without it being a sequel a reboot or an absolute waste of time. so like i said worth a watch don't listen to the 5.6 rating it's got because it's quite an enjoyable hour and a half, btw don't watch this expecting a horror because tbh you'll just be disappointed.
