Sorry, this movie sucks
Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
The acting in this movie is really good.
This is the best ghost movie i think i have ever seen. The special effects were very good if not great. I get really tired of reading reviews of very good movies that are almost always bad. So i thought i would write a review of a very good movie for a chance. If you like ghost movies, this one is the best i have ever seen. I usually do not like ghost movies, i cannot ever be scared of one, but this one has a very different take and the ending explains the entire movie. The cast is excellent, the special effects are very good and the plot is good as well. A little slow at first, but as the movie goes along, the better it gets. This is a movie well worth seeing.
Kristen Stewart, who is famous for some vampire movie, stars in The Messengers. The cast is excellent, Dylan McDermott (American Horror Story), Penelope Ann Miller (Carlito's Way), William Davis (smoking man from X-Files), and John Corbett (Northern Exposure). Kristen Stewart and John Corbett are both very good and interesting to watch. There is nothing new about the story, a teenage girl (Stewart) has problems in the big city and her family moves to the country in hopes of rebuilding their lives and finances. Creepy and scary things happen day one but naturally only the kids can see what's going on and one of them doesn't talk. You can probably guess the rest. Maybe not original but well done. Kristen Stewart can act and gave it her all, but there were some rough spots. One scene in particular with Dylan McDermott (playing her father) where Kristen's body language is almost flirty and it breaks the moment. I've never really seen John Corbett outside Northern Exposure and was a little surprised at how effortlessly he switched roles, quiet and kindly one moment, menacing the next. The sequel, Messengers 2, is really a prequel and was written first but for some reason was put on the back burner. The Messengers is rated PG13 so if you're looking for a movie with some genuinely creepy and scary moments but without sex and gore, it's a good choice.
Films about the supernatural are not my favourite genre of horror as they are usually extremely predictable and bland. This however for me is one of the better efforts of recent years. It's extremely well filmed and the acting was of a good standard especially from the much maligned Kristen Stewart who was excellent in this. Whilst the plot is nothing ground breaking the setting is beautiful and suitably isolated which creates a real air of tension. There are a few jump out of your seat moments but this film doesn't just rely on cheap shocks as it also tries to combine some elements of credible drama about family breakdowns. The editing is crisp so it all moves along at a pleasing pace which means you don't have time to get bored. I enjoyed this film far more than I expected given the rating of 5.3 and think it has an unfairly low rating on here. Don't expect a classic or much gore but just enjoy a well made supernatural horror.
I saw this right now in Cinemax, five years later of the cinema screening. I saw it because the directors and screen-players were the same of The Ring, it was a bonus. The intro in black and white (a flashback of the previous owners of the house) is really good, I get stuck to my TV. Scary, well done effects, music, cinematography. So far so good. Then when the actual family moves in, well it's all the same I saw countless times in many, many, many... and I mean: many movies. The abandoned house, the new family move in it, the noises, the visions, the ghosts, are really a cliché. You can play with clichés, but put a new dress on them. Don't trace them like using onion paper.I'm not surprised the DVD is only $1.95 in amazon.com A bargain but with no salt and pepper for all horror fans like me.
