So much average
It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
I bought this film on a double DVD with The Wrecking Crew for only one pound, so it's not like I broke the bank to buy it. Sadly this dosen't mean it wasn't a waste of money. When I saw the DVD I was really excited about the prospect of a film with not one but four high end rappers in it. I started the DVD and within minutes it became clear that this was possibly one of the worst pieces of cinema ever created. Not bad in a poorly scripted rom-com sort of way, but bad in a "could have been made by a child with their dad's camcorder sort of way. The camera work, scene direction and script make You've Been Framed look like a compilation of cinematic masterpieces. If I was ever to meet Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe or Ice T I would have to ask them why they decided to release the film despite the offence it has so clearly caused to hundreds. In defence of the film they did lose most of the final film reels on route back from Russia, so there's probably an person in France laughing as they watch the version of Urban Menace we were all meant to see. Until that comes to light please avoid this film like the plague and if you have to see it don't say I didn't warn you.
Absolutely atrocious. My friends tried to watch it to laugh at it, but we couldn't even do it. We had to turn it off after 15 minutes in utter disgust and disbelief. Everything about it is terrible...the acting, the dialogue, the story, the cinematography, the "special effects," etc. Who's idea was it to cast rappers? They have no musical talent, so they must be able to act? Simply terrible. It must be rented and viewed so that you can come to a new appreciation of what a terrible movie really is. Hey, you might get a laugh out of it too, but for me it was just so bad that I couldn't even mock it.
I purchased this DVD & Driller Killer for 5 euro and expected something more than a compleat pile of crap. There is no story or plot.Urban Menace is a joke.I'm a fan of hip hop and usually find Ice T pretty lame but the tracks he used on this seem to be outtakes from his worst album.Snoop Dogg is rubbish and you would hardly know he was in it.Did he get paid $200 for an afternoons work? I give this 'film' one star simply because Fat Joe & Big Pun made me laugh with their rubbish 'acting'.If you could fix your DVD to only play the scenes with these two you could raise a smile. If you find the Urban Menace DVD lying in the street pass it by...a piece of burnt wood is more interesting.
this was thrown together for apparently "no" budget, really..shot on digital video.. Snoop Dogg doesn't even "act" here; the director excerpts video footage from interviews and stage performances mostly (with a voice-over implying that his character is a drug dealer turned music producer); then there is a very brief staged scene with Snoop running around shooting guns.. he doesn't even get to have a "death" scene.. instead, a sniper's sight graphic appears on the screen, zeroes in on Snoop, and then "Bang", all goes red.. Ice T co-produced this... he has a limited role as a hit-man who takes out crooks for his own benefit.. I guess it does well enough at video stores to make a profit.. but it's just blah overall..
