A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

As most reviewers described Baby Shower as Rosemary on speed/crack they hit the nail right in the head. So obviously this film does lack originality but at least they managed to borrow plot elements from the classic and turn it into a gore fest horror feast right? Not exactly. First of all if you are going to use plot elements at least try to turn it into a decent showing; unfortunately, the script department is lacking.For example, the story has hit into plot holes. It isn't clear as to why the events concerning the pregnant woman affects her friends or why the antagonist needs the pregnant woman. I assumed it was for a leader in a ceremony or cult; however, by the time the film finished I was confused and felt my time was wasted. The pacing was awful so it doesn't help with the stilted story. The dialog is Chilean language so the subtitles are in English. It all boils done to the emotions of the characters and delivery. On a positive side the acting wasn't bad but that's not saying much. You only can do so much for so little. I didn't care for any of the women yes not even the pregnant one for all of them were unlikable in which it's understandable in a horror flick. On the contrary, in every horror films there is at least one likable character. The only good factor in Baby Shower is special effects. The gore factor is great and the kills are done well.Overall this film is a hot mess from start to end. The only thing I can say is good is the blood but that alone does not save a film entirely with its bad story, bad pacing, so-so acting, and more plot holes to fill the road. If you want to see how something is done right go see Rosemary's Baby otherwise this movie is a no go.

Four women friends go away to a country house for a baby shower.Differences, past and present, surface.Angela has had a tough year. Her mother dies. She gets pregnant with twins. Her husband is leaving her accompanied by one of her friends, supposedly. Angela joins a support group which seems a bit like a cult. "Don't talk, don't think," Soledad tells her.Her friends will not tell her which one it is. She asks them to go while they are having tea. The pack up, but the car will not start. They come back to find the telephone disconnected. Then the poisoned tea kicks in. Manuela and Ivana become quite ill.Ricardo clubs Julio, then stabs and imprisons Ivana. Ivana gets out of her cage, she steps into an animal trap. Soledad from the cult comes by, rips open her knife wound, then uses a shovel to sever her leg above the trap. Claudia sees this, for which she is beaten and sodomized, just about the time the poison starts hitting her.Olivia did not drink the tea, so perhaps she will survive? She hitches a ride, only to be picked up by the murderer Ricardo. She jumps from the truck, but gets shot soon after. Julio ties her up, but she manages to escape. Felipe shows up. Felipe kills Ricardo, but Julio stabs Felipe.Manuela is sacrificed for her blood. Angela escapes for a while, but the babies decide to come. Shortest delivery ever. Julio gets his head shot off by Soledad for helping Angela.Soledad steals the first baby, and does not tie the cord. Angela may just bleed to death, but Olivia returns with help. Angela has the second child, and apparently the medics reached her in time. The officials cannot find Soledad or the first child.Final shot: Soledad nursing the first child at a lakeside high in the Andes.----Scores----Cinematography: 10/10 Beautiful.Sound: 8/10 The incidental music is too loud by far, massively overbearing at times. Other than that, the actors were well miked, and the Foley sound was quite good.Acting: 8/10 Rather nice.Screenplay: 8/10 Consistent, if twisted, logical progression.

Baby Shower (2011) - 4 former classmates having a reunion to celebrate the 1st-born of one of them.-As a big fan of Spanish movies, in this case a South-American Spanish movie (Chile), and one of my very first Spanish letdowns! Actors are struggling with the story and are constant in search to develop their character, probably the fault of Pablo Illanes who didn't only directed the movie but also responsible at the same time for the scenario. Wonder why things turned out pretty bad with a straightforward storyline with less till no sub-plots, so... things weren't that difficult. The movie is at moments pretty cruel, harsh and brutal and on the other hand, gentle and filled with happiness. These characterizations combined, develop a barbaric piece of cinema, although most of its effect goes down the drain because of its wrong soundtrack (Dance-music?), pretty poor worked out story-line, messy directing and actors in search of their own character. Fill it up with a lot of unanswered questions and there you are, a movie that didn't really satisfied your needs the moment the end-credits roll-up. Couldn't help it but while watching it felt like a pretty poor but violent distill of Rosemary's Baby (1968). Nope not really a recommendation of mine though as each time in my case, make up your own mind, and at the same time, don't tell me I didn't warn you!

In my view this film was let down by the lead actress, Ingrid Isensee.In her defence I guess this is largely due to the script she was given, which portrays her as a vacuous airhead who wanders about the film with a ridiculous detachment in terms of the other cast members. This lets down the entire premise of the film, which purports to be about a group of old friends getting together to celebrate the upcoming birth of the characters first child. There is no warmth whatsoever between her and any of the others, who at at least try to portray old friends.There is no plot development, no clue as to why some events take place, and no attempt at explanation as to the carnage that occurs. This is a shame, because the direction and camera work is quite stylish. Overall a disappointment, but worth seeing to make your own mind up.
