A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

I knew this was an action movie, it is made by WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) Studios, hence the leading actor being a professional wrestler, this movie has spawned a series of sequels, but this is obviously the most successful, I was just hoping for easy entertainment. Basically John Triton (John Cena) of the United States Marine Corps, returns home from Iraq, he loses his job working as a security guard for using excessive force, so he and his wife Kate (Kelly Carlson) decide to take a vacation. Meanwhile a robbery takes place in a jewellery store, led by criminal Rome (Robert Patrick), with his gang: girlfriend Angela (Abigail Bianca), Morgan (Anthony Ray Parker), Vescera (Damon Gibson), and Bennett (Manu Bennett). On the run, the gang stop at a gas station, where Triton and Kate have stopped, two cops arrive for gas, Morgan shoots and kills one of the officers, causing Rome to shoot the other officer, while Angela kills the gas station attendant. The gang take Kate hostage as a precaution, and then blow up the station, Triton regains consciousness and gives chase in the police car, the gang shoot at the car and slowly take it apart in the pursuit, until they reach a lake, Triton falls out of the vehicle and seemingly to his death. Rome and his gang walk through a swamp to avoid the police, Kate tries to escape several times, Detective Van Buren (Jerome Ehlers) is pursuing the gang, he finds Triton who survived and refuses to allow him to pursue the gang, but Triton heads into the swamp anyway. Morgan and Vescera have an altercation, Rome decides to kill Vescera, then he receives a call from the anonymous buyer he was planning to share the profits of the stolen diamonds, but Rome tells him that he intends to cut him out of the deal. The gang find an abandoned lodge and decide to rest there, meanwhile Triton is kidnapped by two fugitives who believe he is a cop looking for them, but he is able to subdue them and continue his search for the gang. Triton finds the lodge, and kills Morgan and Bennett, dragging their bodies underneath the lodge, there he again meets Van Buren, then Kate rushes out attempting another escape, before being attacked and recaptured by Angela. Triton enters the lodge and face-to-face with Rome, Van Buren enters the room, but points his gun, revealing he is the anonymous partner, Triton grabs Van Buren and uses him as a human shield when Rome fires, killing him. Rome makes his escape with Angela and hostage Kate, before firing at a gasoline tank and blowing up the lodge, Triton makes a narrow escape, the explosion launches into the swamp. Rome takes Van Buren, but abandons it due to a police tracking device, Angela seduces a driver then kills him for his truck, Triton is arrested by a marine patrol officer, but is able to steal his handcuffs and vessel, he races to the marina. Jumping on the truck, Triton grabs Angela and throws her out to crash through the windshield of an oncoming bus, killing her and spilling the diamonds, Rome tries to get rid of Triton, driving into passing buildings, and leaps out before the truck careens through a warehouse, then crashes into a lake. Triton stumbles out, leaving Rome in the fiery warehouse, Kate is handcuffed in the truck and drowns, but Triton manages to revive her, a badly-burned Rome returns and tries to choke Triton with a chain, but finally Triton kills him breaking his neck, it ends with Triton and Kate kissing as the police approach. Also starring Drew Powell as Joe and Frank Carlopio as Frank. Cena fails to contend with the likes of Schwarzenegger or Stallone, and even fellow grappler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and exhibits preposterous god-like indestructibility, surviving three or four huge explosions and crashing through things, Patrick does alright as the main baddie, and doesn't mind poking fun at his T-1000 fame or being part of the unstoppable goodie joke. It is a pretty basic plot, the wife of the good guy is kidnapped and will do whatever it takes to get her back and stop the trigger-happy diamond thieves, the script is full of clichés, silly banter and predictability, and obviously you cannot take it seriously, but there is a small part of you enjoying yourself, laughing at how ridiculous it is, and the the speedy chase sequences and things blowing up, a dumb but watchable enough action. Okay!

Well since the late 1980s several wrestling stars have taken to the big screen with variable success. Dwayne Johnson seems to be standout actor from a roll call that includes Roddy Piper and Steve Borden amongst others.WWE has started their own film division in order to promote some of its bigger wrestling stars hence here we have John Cena playing an ex-marine going after a group of trigger happy diamond thieves who are on the run and have kidnapped his wife. Its never explained why the thieves happen to kill police and other members of the public when they should be keeping a low profile. As always the gang tends to bicker among themselves, one of them even shoots the other for unfathomable reasons.Cena is in hot pursuit of the bad guys and nothing seems to stop him, he really is like the terminator which also happens to be the best joke made in the film in the presence of Robert (T-1000) Patrick.Given the fact that Cena has all the presence and acting ability of a tree trunk its only left to the bad guys to inject some zest to the film. Patrick adds some humour here and there and Anthony Ray Parker gives a surreal explanation why he does not like rock candy. The film has some big explosions which are very well done, there are some good action scenes which I expect Cena to excel at but he brings actually no personality to the film. As this is a dumb old action film you would want the star to have some charisma to carry the film and Cena is totally outside his comfort zone.

This was completely over the top but I sure had fun watching a fire proof, bullet proof, blast proof, building proof John Cena retrieve his wife from a group of murderous diamond thieves.I think you need to be in the right mood to appreciate this, i.e. -hungover. One of those so-bad-its-awesome movies; action packed with thousands of bullets, big explosions, big hero and some funny lines from the bad guys, who ended up being very entertaining especially Robert Patrick. I did wonder how they managed to find a stuntman for John Cena who is freakishly huge 04.12.14Favorite quote "This guy is like the terminator"

OK, I found this movie to be ridiculous the first time I watched it, but it grows on you after more attempts. I now consider it one of my guilty pleasures, and recommend it for a few laughs.Yes, I said laughs. It is not and "action" movie in the sense of what you would expect. Sure, it has a lot of action, and some dynamite explosions, but the dialog is simply funny. Robert Patrick is just the man for the role of the "bad guy." John Cena is just what you would expect of a marine. He just keeps on coming.I do not find that hard to believe, because if Kelly Carlson was my wife, I wouldn't quit either. Not Oscar material, but just the thing for Saturday night.
