Steven Russell leads a seemingly average life – an organ player in the local church, happily married to Debbie, and a member of the local police force. That is until he has a severe car accident that leads him to the ultimate epiphany: he’s gay and he’s going to live life to the fullest – even if he has to break the law to do it. Taking on an extravagant lifestyle, Steven turns to cons and fraud to make ends meet and is eventually sent to the State Penitentiary where he meets the love of his life, a sensitive, soft-spoken man named Phillip Morris. His devotion to freeing Phillip from jail and building the perfect life together prompts him to attempt (and often succeed at) one impossible con after another.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
Being that it was based on true story made this more interesting. With the crazy antics that Steven pulls U would of never thought this could be based on true life. A different role for Jim Carrey as well as Ewem McGregor whom I thought was excellent. A roller coaster of wild antics and strong homosexual themes but average movie with interesting true facts.
This movie is so.. Gay! Kidding! Well, it is, but you know..I really enjoyed this movie. Jim Carrey is great. He once again shows that he can act. He can act indeed. Ewan McGregor does a good job too.I am no big advocate for gay rights or anything, and I am not gay, so I don't have any "ulterior motive" with liking this movie. But equal rights should of course be a given, no matter what your sexuality, gender, whatever is.What I'm trying to say is that this movie is good. And it's not just good for people who are interested in, uhm, gay stuff.I Love You Phillip Morris is not like every other movie out there, either. It is a little bit of an original story. It's really fun to see Stephen Russells endeavors.
Last night I watched this movie for the third time. I was impressed even more than before by the sheer skill of the screenplay, of the editing, and of the performances. I then went online and read some reviews and found aspects of them baffling. Whilst many critics admired the film, some found a lack of sexual chemistry between the two male leads. This is rubbish. Perhaps it's projection on the part of straight journalists, nervy about such stirrings in themselves. Jim Carrey and and Ewan McGregor make a lovely couple. McGregor in particular is wonderful as the long-suffering, trusting, gentle and somewhat feather-brained Phillip Morris. Put this performance beside his tour de force in YOUNG ADAM and you'll get a sense of his remarkable acting range. Range is not something that Carrey can boast but well-cast he can be excellent and there really isn't anyone who could match him here. Perfect casting. Some critics also complain that the film slows down after its bravura opening section. Not true. It just changes pace. It has to: if it didn't it would be like an hour-and-a-half video game. What we have here is a brilliantly written, well-performed, shrewdly judged piece of writing, based on events which, as the opening credits remind us, actually happened. It really did. I've no doubt I'll keep coming back to I LOVE YOU, PHILLIP MORRIS. If you haven't seen it yet, please do.
I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRISIt was OK. I was told this was a comedy, but that is not the category I would put it in. Yes there are a few funny moments in the film, but not really laugh out loud moments... more shocking moments. The film stars Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. At first I was not sure that either of them could play gay guys convincingly... but I was wrong. They did a great job in this film. Both actors were very good and convincing.Jim Carrey has a great face. I think he pulls some very funny expressions in his films, and he does the same in this. The film is about a police officer (Carrey) who is married with 1 daughter... but when everyone doesn't know is he is gay. When he gets arrested for fraud, he goes to jail and meets his future boyfriend (McGregor). The problem is, when they get released Jim can't seem to stay out of trouble. The story is apparently based on a true story. But with all true stories, you never know how much of the movie is true.Still, this film was OK... I just hoped it would be more funny than serious... and it wasn't.I will give this movie 5 out of 10.I think I like to remember Jim for his better films... and look forward to Dumb and Dumber to.
