Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Why did they have to ruin an awesome series? They completely moved away from their intense and dark setup in attempt to bring everything to a larger scale. Which not always is the best thing to do, as we can clearly see here, this movie was a complete abomination of the first 2 movies and the story line in general, very disappointing. In this film, on the contrary to its prequels we can see a bunch of boring horror film clichés, everything is blatant and predictable. No tension whatsoever, absolutely 0 tension or suspense. The beginning was extremely boring as you could easily see what is going to happen in brief moments. The cast was horrible too, no likable characters, everybody seemed so dumb and ignorant to the situation, even the main characters. The creators also tried to introduce new mechanics of the possessed people for some reason and it looked as if the virus does not get transfered via blood or saliva anymore? Why is that? What annoyed me the most was the decision of putting romantic music in between supposedly intense scenes and fights, what is all of that about? Did they want to turn this series into a romantic comedy? Because that completely ruined the watching experience, how can you feel thrilled or scared if in the middle of a fight for their lives romantic cliché tunes start blasting?I am in total shock they decided to make a turn like this in the series, one of the worst ways to destroy an awesome franchise REC was known to be. If you are a fan of the first 2 movies, you will be much better off saving your memories of the first films and imagining the series ended there, that way you will only remember the good, thrilling moments REC had to offer.
First of all, I like to state that I'm a "sucker" for zombie movies... Always been, always will be...It was with great expectation that I received this one. I loved REC and REC2, and I thought "Wow, nice... REC3... man, this is awesome". After watching it, this were my thoughts: 1. It's not REC material. The story-line takes a curve, here. The only connection to REC, is the dog, that bit the vet.2. There's only a short sequence filmed in "first person view", or shoulder cam. After that, the whole movie is filmed "third person view", the normal way.3. Yes, the movie is a bit of a "let down" compared to it's predecessors, and even to it's successor, but, then again, if you compare this movie to Hollywood-garbage from the last decade, this one is a jewel, a work of art. It should be rated slightly below Dawn of the Dead (the remake - I don't compared anything to the classic zombie flicks from the 70s and the 80s, because those were 10 out of 10 indeed), or even Shaun of the Dead, but still, it is superior to Land of the Dead, Zombieland, Scout's Guide to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse, and even Dead Rising Watchtower and Dead Rising Endgame - keep in mind that I enjoyed every one of those movies. So, try to watch this putting it's title in the "back of your mind", and watch it without making any connections to REC franchise, and you will certainly have a very nice time... This movie, for me, a serious 7.
I'd been putting off seeing REC3 for a long time due to the sheer amount of negative reviews. It was such a shame to read because I absolutely love the first two films. The first REC isn't just my favourite ever found footage horror film, but one of my favourite horror films ever! It's one of the few films to actually make me feel scared and always has me filled with tension no matter how many times I see it. REC2 is also a damn fine sequel. It's not scary like the first, but it's entertaining and intelligent.REC3 came along and I was excited for the whole new setting, however I was extremely sceptical about it not being entirely found footage. What's the point of having a film with REC in the title if it's not recorded? Of course, then the poor reviews came flooding in so I just avoided it until it popped up on Film4. I sat down to watch it last night, not expecting much at all, but to my surprise I actually enjoyed it quite a bit! The first 20 minutes were quite brilliant. I loved how it began like you were watching an actual wedding DVD. It was setting itself up for something with the potential to be spectacular. We had lots of different video cameras, helping us to gain lots of different point of views. We got to know all the characters well, very much like the interviews in the first view. It was also very humorous, and the idea of having it all at a wedding seemed so fresh and original! Once the carnage spread it looked like it we were onto a winner.Unfortunately, the film made the big mistake of scrapping the found footage angle shortly after the chaos ensued. After this, the film just became your bog-standard zombie movie and the intensity was completely lost. The quick-cutting and clichéd horror music also made sure that the film was completely stripped of its sense of realism. Unfrotunately, for the second bulk of the film it just didn't work. All of the events which occurred could've quite easily worked through the eyes of a video camera and it would've made the film a whole lot better. I quite liked the central idea of the bride and groom trying to reunite, and they were actually pretty decent characters. The film had a nice range of characters altogether actually, it's a shame that some of them were randomly forgotten about, for example the granny and the little kid were just abandoned.I have to say that the humour did work for me. I didn't find it as in-your-face as others did and some of it actually made me laugh out loud. It may be me being childish, but I found every scene with SpongeJohn Sqaurepants hilarious. I also enjoyed the gratuitous violence and was quite surprised by how gory it was. There are some brilliant kills in this which should satisfy most horror fans.I felt like it began picking up a nice momentum during the final half hour and I got really into it. Suddenly I felt like it didn't need to be found footage because I cared more about the characters and their situations. It became a really fun little zombie film, and the directing became much more solid. I won't spoil it, but I really did like the ending too. I thought that the last shot was pretty much perfect. So I maybe in the minority here, but I think if you go in with the mindset that REC3 isn't going to be a patch on the first two, then you'll find that there's a lot to enjoy. It does have a fairly large wobble in the middle (perhaps it should've stayed found footage up until the third act) but even then it's still entertaining and has plenty of funny moments to keep you interested. I love the idea of it all happening at a wedding and the first and final acts use this idea very well. I was also rooting for the heroes, which is a nice rarity in modern zombie movies! If REC3 was stripped of its title and called Wedding of the Dead, then I think it would be getting a lot more love than it has done.Read more weird and dazzling reviews at www.asdaman.wordpress.com
I cannot understand the reviews above. Rec3Genesis appeared on Film 4 here and i simply bust a gut laughing all through which was the idea. I've seen the films of Iglesias and this in the same frantic mold! I wont go into details but i simply love it!!! For me it was perfect! Funniest parody of all the zombie movies I've ever seen. Not Rodriguez, Tarantino could come close to this! The one scene where the priest has taken over the broadcast system And is reciting Genesis which stops the mad zombies in their tracks while our heroes the happy couple escape but are wasted by his Grandfather also a zombie who being deaf and having lost the batteries of his hearing aid could not hear the sermon and so his blood lust raged on unabated!! Fabuloso, loads of tongues being bitten out, extreme blood letting super fun! First time iv'e seen Plazas work (i'd rather call it extreme play!) So...I guess i will have to find the first two of the Rec series? Oh, gimme me more of these please!
