Wonderful Movie
So much average
Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
This movie was way better than Saw I! You get to learn more about Jigsaw's character and why he does the things he does. The story is a lot more interesting and descriptive than in Saw I. There is also a lot more locations to get interested in! BTW, the ending was really well done!
So much of the stuff that happens in this movie is boring and stupid, and none of it makes sense. The main game in SAW II is made up of eight people. Of these eight people, one is a child, two work for jigsaw, one is brain damaged, and one dies immediately so that there are stakes. It never occurred to jigsaw how unfair that is. They're job is to escape from a house full of nerve gas and solve little puzzles along the way, to get little bottles of antidote. All of the traps are stupid. At one point, a Russian man who works for jigsaw has to crawl into a metal box he has been told is called "The Furnace" and get two bottles of antidote. He crawls in and grabs one, then spends a while trying his hardest to grab the second one. Once he does, the door shut, and fire starts to come towards him. In order to open the door, he has to push a button that isn't in any way obscured, but he doesn't because he didn't see it. He never looked behind him. He, a man who works for jigsaw, heard that the box was called "the furnace" and was like "thats probably just a box, I should just go get the antidote, that's probably the trap." Every other trap is also bad. Overall, I would say you should only watch this if you plan on watching every SAW movie.
DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE MOVIE!!!The movie was decent. The acting was better. The plot was completely different. I enjoyed the movie enough to be able to watch it again sometime. The criticism this movie received however is for a great part unreasonable and not thought out. I'll go over some of this criticism as honest as I am."The plot made no sense". Yes it did, you just didn't get it. Also that not constructive criticism. The reason for the guy to start killing everyone was dumb: It was, but then again, this is a guy with anger problems who is enraged. He is dying and he doesn't care about anyone anymore. The girl is stupid for reaching her hand into the trap: No she wasn't. You have to realize that she knows she is mere minutes away of dying. She is desperate and not thinking. If she didn't get the antidote she would have died which is why she stuck her other hand in the trap to retrieve the fallen part of the syringe. How come Amanda suddenly knows to check the walls and find clues after having been in a game that wasn't similar in the slightest:Amanda is the new jigsaw so of course she is gonna move the game along. No one else knew exactly how the games went so Amanda was able to do this without much suspicion. Also Because the kid is the only innocent one, Amanda protected him and left him alive. which brings me to...The clue of the kid being the officers son has nothing to do with anything: It does. This was the kids part of the game. If his identity would have been reveled too soon and without his knowledge he would have been killed and failed his game. The house was made of wood and could have been broken down: At 33 minutes Xavier tried this and it turned out the house was caged in, so it wouldn't have mattered. In terms of lighting and all that; I thought it was okay, but that's without any knowledge on that aspect.
The first Saw is a decent psychological thriller. It is technically well executed, specifically with the editing and pacing (crucial to horror and thriller). There is good setup, rising action, climax, and then twist conclusion. So, with that in mind, I will say that Saw II is nowhere near the quality of its predecessor. It is good for a casual watch, but there is nothing more at play in this movie other than some "just okay" puzzles and an obvious attempt to top the first Saw in terms of gore and level of danger. But, it tries to hard. The realistic danger of Saw I is what makes the movie. The over the top nature of this one is what ruins it.Watch the first Saw seriously. I mean it. Watch it and pay attention. Then, watch the second saw with some popcorn and a few friends casually.
