Best movie ever!
A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
In the opening scene John (Scott Adkins) sets the screen scene record for a non-cyborg to get hit by a crowbar and survive. As he wanders off into a coma as he watches Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) who is wearing gloves, murder his family. The FBI knows it is Luc, because he "left his prints all over the place." Now is this a clue, or just a screw up?John awakes from his coma and doesn't remember much of his life as he looks for Luc and tries to put things together. He discovers he was not a nice person and that entering a strip joint causes instant healing as he no longer has to use his cane to get around. He teams up with a dancer (Mariah Bonner) who knows the bad him and they go on an adventure having to fight off a "Manchurian" plumber who drives a truck with a self repairing hood.In order to keep things level, people who could act better than Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren were not considered for roles. All around a fairly sorry film for the franchise. Oh, not "Halloween 3" bad, but close.Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, full frontal nudity (male and female), plenty of blood and exploding heads.
What's that, you've never seen Universal Soldier Seven? Welp, here's the info:Dolph + Van Damage = Dolph DamageSo if we take D+D x VD = DVD then it appears this movie invented DVDs.Plus this is the Soldier of the Universe and he is Reckoning. Reckoning. It is also a day. Of the week? Maybe. You'll have to watch and see. The ending *may* surprise you, because it is actually a day of the month. Octember.Brazillion/Twelv
First let me say: 5 is way to low for this movie. Have people not seen really bad movies? OK.I'm not quite sure how I stumbled upon this action gem.. I guess I was intrigued by Scott Adkins, plus van Damme and Lundgren reprising their roles in this long going franchise. Anyway, I started watching and didn't know if it would be good or not, until the first real action sequence. Oh man, it is really brutal. Like gunshot-wounds-on-bare-skin-brutal. Sets the tone. I like me some brutal action and fighting, and man did I come to the right place! The movie itself is a little weird. Among the weirdness is a epilepsy- inducing light-show which I actually closed my eyes for a couple of times, to not be hypnotized or brain-fried or whatever. Intense. Anyway, as I said, the movie, the plot, is not super awesome, it has it's good parts, but in the action department is where this movie shines. The action in this movie is absolutely top notch. The fighting is incredible. It is _so_ brutal! Easy to follow, very well choreographed, and as I said, a little extra brutal. (sorry for saying brutal so much, I guess it's my word of the day)Any fan of brutal, bloody, hard hitting fighting, will definitely get their fix here. It also has this long uncut (at least seems uncut) action scene with a lot of killing, and it is simply beautiful. The rating for this is totally stupid, 5? What? This has hands down, some of the best action this decade. (so far)
John (Scott Adkins) awakens from a nine month coma with memories of a home invasion and Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) executing his wife and daughter. He is haunted by the memories and investigates their murders. Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren) and Luc have gathered a following of Unisols and are preparing for a battle with the government agency. John tracks down a murder scene and then stripper Sarah (Mariah Bonner) but he can't quite remember why. He is attacked by Andrew's follower Unisol Magnus. The fights are great. The car chase is good. It's always great to see workmanship in real stunts. I'm even going to forgive some of the stiff acting coming from the stuntmen-turned-actors. The lead Adkins is a functional actor. Generally, the acting is inferior. JCVD looks creepy good. The plot is functional but the writing is poor. They need somebody to do some proper rewrites. The connective tissue between the action just doesn't cut it.
