I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
So much average
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
This movie has a lot of faults. The synopsis is a loss leader...the one thing this movie isn't is that. Didn't watch the movie till the very, very end? If you gave up on this movie early, you will have missed that the movie is supposed to be like being inside the head of someone with serious PTSD. There are some random things added that I think add nothing to the topic except to make it murkier...why would the wife immediately start cheating with the best friend? Were they just trying to heap angst on the protagonist, like -just- PTSD isn't enough? I have had friends with PTSD, that by itself is just fine at screwing them up! It just distracts from the message, makes this movie just confused and disappointing.
I saw it a couple of days ago, but now I'm thinking does it deserve what I've rated. I mean I have rated it average, but I think I've overrated it. Some films impacts me the days going by since its watch, this is not one of those. It was exactly like the opposite. The cast looked good. Even the screenplay, only when each layer separated according to random timeline. Together, it is a mess. It was confusing at the beginning to the first three quarters of the tale. But once the twist came in, not what I was expected. The story of US army man who served in Afghanistan, now returned home after a disaster in the mission. Coping with the consequences, he's not the same man as before he left the home for his national duty. With narration keep changing its timeline, at one point in the final quarter, all are tied together. And ends the story before explaining the events for us.The actors were good, but it was the storyline that did not stand and deliver. Especially the editing that layered out multiple events. That created curiosity, though the solution was weaker. Or most of the viewers would guess that earlier self. Some people might like it, but surely majority won't. I don't know what should have been done to make it better. But I did not enjoy it.5/10
This movie is a must watch, plain and simple. Unless you're the type that can only enjoy a movie that doesn't challenge your thinking. If anyone tells you otherwise they simple didn't get it, or lack the ability to analyze and appreciate the film. This may only be the third of fourth review I've written, but I felt that people should hear some praise about this movie because it really was a surprisingly good.Shia Labeouf does a superb job. This is not an Emmy type performance, but it still nothing short of excellent. I feel that the reception this and lack of press this received is all about Hollywood politics, and peoples' perception of Labeouf. If you want to see a fresh story then I strongly urge you to check this out.
Shia LaBeouf never strike me at a actors i only know him as the main character of Transformer series.None of his filmography leave any impact on me and lately he also involving with a lot of crazy stuff on newspaper so he also very bad in public eye but after read a news about his latest movie Man Down being bombed super hard at the box office and had a very low rating on IMDb so i decide to check the movie out and you guys know what? For the first time ever Shia LaBeouf truly shine in my eyes at a actors.Don't read the description because it might give you a false expectations when the movie describe as a post- apocalyptic thriller in fact it a very heartbreaking drama story about a U.S. Marine played by Shia when he go through a journey full of blood and sand just to get back with his son.The relationship with his son is the best aspect of this movie and Shia deliver the most raw and gritty performance yet in his career. The movie kinda messy at first when it often jump back and front to different time line that can really hard to follow but when you get used to it in the end when all the puzzle pieces together it very surprising and caught me off guard.I guess the main problem with this movie for me is beside Shia all the supported characters very blank
