Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
the audience applauded
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
The plot is far from being groundbreaking, and to be honest I was expecting something pretty boring. While certain shots seemed exaggeratedly long to me, with a pretty slow paste in general, it was surprisingly captivating. Iguchi Nami nicely takes her time to depict the personalities of ordinary but somehow unconventional people in today Japan. With the regrettable exception of the main character, the performances are all very good. Machiko Ono, that I had seen and liked in Koreeda's "Like father like son", is the highlight of the film to me. Yutaka Takenouchi does great job. Excellent Sawako Agawa. The special effect and supernatural components seemed quite unnecessary. But all together, the film is definitely worth watching.
