Wonderful Movie
After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
***Spoilers Ahead*** Abandoned Dead started off GREAT & had my full attention. It was GOOD & CREEPY.The long, dark hallway, the hospital equipment moving by itself, the stuffed doll come to life, the creepy caretaker, somebody or something calling out the security guards name, etc, etc, etc. Even the pizza guy was a creep.I was on the edge of my seat until the scene where the security guard went into the room that had the corpse laying there, looking like she once was wearing a sleeping mask that somebody used as a stencil, cut around it & removed the skin. After this, I got a feeling the movie was going downhill & it did.It took a straight nosedive from there. It's like somebody hit a switch & it went from GREAT to garbage, it went from being a Horror flick to....... I don't even know what to call it.If they would've kept the story going about the creeped out security guard rather than switching to a hypnotized mental patient, Abandoned Dead would've been perfect.Another thing I really liked about the movie was that it was set in an addiction clinic (1st time I've ever seen that) Every movie I've seen where a security guard is watching over a building overnight, it's set in a mental hospital, hospital or a huge building.Maybe that's what made it so scary as well, it wasn't set in a HUGE building.Abandoned Dead started off with GREAT potential. The 1st half was awesome but the 2nd half completely falls apart so I wouldn't recommend anybody go see it unless you want to be disappointed like I was (HUGE, HUGE, HUGE disappointment) 1 star just for the 1st half of the movie
The flaws in this indie film are too obvious to belabor. Suffice to say that you should not expect to witness anything approaching Oscar winning or nominated acting, writing, directing, etc. But this, with rare exceptions, is what one should expect in what is obviously a low- budget production. It comes with the territory. So, if your central purpose in watching an indie film is to indulge a desire to carp and criticize, you easily will find faults in this film. However, if you are among those who subscribe to the standard of criticism enunciated long ago by none other than the undying Master of the Macabre, Edgar Allen Poe, you may discover redeeming signs of life in Abandoned Dead, which while not on the sublimely sinister level of any of Poe's classic creations, is in a consanguineous vein. The Procrustean 1,000 word limit for this present review precludes anything but a rough paraphrase of Poe's dictum: A creation should be judged on whether the creator accomplished what he set out to create. Judged by this standard, the film leaves a favorably impression of what Mark Curran, who happens to have produced a one-man "Poe" show presently on stage, while doing this other one man show as Producer/Writer/Director of Abandoned Dead, managed to squeeze out of a tight indie budget. His promising script explores dark, twisted psychological mine-shafts, and he wastes no precious production money on the gratuitous goo and gore that spray the sets of cheap thrillers. That he managed to cast (sans the services of a casting director) a few quite capable actors among the miscast misfits that somehow manage to make unseemly appearances in practically every indie film, is itself remarkable. Any indie film lover who has been thinking of having a go at production should first have a word with Mark Curran, who evidently knows how to do a lot with a little. In sum, while this film is by no stretch a nine or ten as some apparent partisans proclaim, neither is it a one or two as some slag-slingers say. All things considered in the indie genre, it is a solid six or even a seven.
The movie Abandoned Dead,Mark Curran, who Directed this awesome movie did a superb job not only directing this movie, the atmosphere was creepy and I love creepy he also cast the right people for their roles for his movie is one of my new awesome kick ass psychological horror movies now it will have you on the edge of your seat I know I was and I am a hardcore horror movie fanatic!!!! I recommend this movie to everyone who is looking for a good horror movie to watch!!!!! I can watch this movie over and over again! p.s. you don't want to turn your lights off it will send goosebumps and shivers and it will force you to look over your shoulders
Its been a good movie till the very end and has a twist in the end but i wont spoil it for you as its worth the watch. To start with, the camera work has been superb and the lightening has been kept low intentionally to give it the cold horror movie feel. The camera angles have been brilliantly worked and the camera's just didn't stick to a single view for long. The actors have done justice to their roles and their expressions were in accord with the scenes and didn't go flat at any time.As far as the story goes, it starts off with a tiring guard(damn! she's hot) returning from work when she is asked for an extra shift in may-field addiction clinic. She is not alone in there as paranormal disturbances begin to manifest themselves and keeping her psychological condition in view, she is surely in for some hard time. The story seems a good base for a horror movie and haven't been stretched a lot to fill in the time. This movie is a brilliant motivation and inspiration for upcoming producers and actors to watch and learn the different methods to keep the movie lively and moving at a good pace. Also this movie is a better example of how to keep up the standard while keeping the budget in view,as its an exceptional effort for being a low budget movie.I'll recommend this one!!
