Excellent but underrated film
A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.
Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Hmm, so I'll start with the bad: the wardrobe, mis-cast skinny gay boy-band main cast, and an incredibly camp older Toshi all adding up to make the opening 30 minutes a cringe-worthy attempt at a cool homo-acceptance action/drama for teenage boys unsure of their sexuality.Sitting through this said period (if it's not been turned off already), the strong homosexual over-tones become less tedious and are replaced instead by the wondering if this group of young men are even supposed to be gay, via the introduction of a female love interest. At this point I expected the two main characters to have a showdown due to the realisation of their bi-sexuality, but it never (thankfully) occurred. For those without a clue as to what this film is indeed about, well, it's kind of a drama spanning years of the lives of two men - one, an ever-lasting blood-sucker, and the other, a Scarface wannabe with a John Woo influence and Boy George hairdo. So, what we end up with is a gangster/teen flick about friendship with a vampire thrown into the mix for great justice... and to be honest, it makes the film a whole lot better for it than it does make it worse.Overall it's a tough call on rating this non-genre film with the elements of several - is it terrible or brilliant, a pop-culture-aimed-mess or daring groundbreaker?I can't answer for it's up to each of us to decide ourselves, however, come the end of the 2 hour journey, I was pleasantly surprised to have found that I rather enjoyed it.
I've never really been a big fan of Gackt and Hyde (correction, i hate Gackt) so when me and my friends found out he made a movie and did everything himself, we where we got to see that. Preparing ourself for the worst kind there was. But we got pretty surprised. The story was pretty impressive, Gackt was a pretty good actor. There where pretty fun moments in the movie to, so even if you don't like Gackt, you can spend your time with watching him fall all the time and other stuff and some Yaoi moments. Other then that the flying fish and the drugged pizza's from Toshi (played by the same guy that did Shogo Kawada in Battle Royale) and humoristic situations during the battle scenes was also good. the only thing that really bugged me was the time skips all the time..
This film was amazing. It had an original concept (that of a vampire movie meets Yakuza mob film). It is a humorous and yet highly dramatic and tragic movie about friendship, love, immortality, death, and happiness, and comments subtelly on society. On the part of Gackt Camui, the role of Sho was excellently delivered, and HYDE was surprisingly good for his first film as the tortured yet humorous vampire, Kei. I also laughed and cried at the happy-go-lucky character, Toshi, who grew up with Sho. I loved each and every second of this this film, especially moments such as the funny Cigarette scene, the fighting scenes, and most of all, the heartrenching ending.
This movie is amazing. The plot was just...wow.I was very surprised by Gackt's and Hyde's performance, after growing up in the American world of the actors who can't sing and singers who can't act.In this movie, a young Sho (Gackt) comes across a vampire, Kei (Hyde). Over time, they form an unlikely friendship. Kei is suffering because of how he is forced to live off others, the half-life of a vampire. It's a sad movie, but not sappy. The plot was very unique, and contrary to your typical vampire flick. The storyline was thick with twists and turns and very entrancing. The only fault I would say the movie had, despite it's lack of a happy--albeit peacefulending, would be it's multiple languages. I had the unsubdued version (I'm lucky that I understood it all save some of the Cantonese), so I would recommend getting something with subtitles. All in all, the movie was just awesome.
