“This film is part of a series of films on gay men who survived the Nazi era. I met Walter Schwarze when he was already in his eighties. My camera recorded his first public account of his five-year incarceration as a homosexual at Sachsenhausen concentration camp. He was in his fifties when he met Ali in his hometown of Leipzig; the two men became partners and remained close until his demise. And yet, Walter told me, he felt he had lived in vain because he had not had the good fortune of today's gays, who are able to grow up in freedom. Walter Schwarze died of cancer on May 10, 1998.” Rosa von Praunheim

The Fall of '55
In late 1955 and early 1956, the citizens of Boise, Idaho believed there was a menace in their midst. On Halloween, investigators arrested three men on charges of having sex with teenage boys. The investigators claimed the arrests were just the tip of the iceberg-they said hundreds of boys were being abused as part of a child sex ring. There was no such ring, but the result was a widespread investigation which some people consider a witch hunt. By the time the investigation ended, 16 men were charged. Countless other lives were also touched. In some cases, men implicated fled the area. At least one actually left the country. The investigation attracted attention in newspapers across the nation, including Time Magazine. The "Morals Drive" left scars which remain to this day.

a very interesting film. for the art to suggest more than presents. for the nice characters and a form of honesty who seems be real poetic. a simple story about love, responsibilities, choices and friendship. and the manner to build each in decent manner. all as parts of a fascinating drawing of gestures and words and decision. the delicate air of the story of Taylor, Alex and Jesse is the precious gift of this short film. not details. only few lines. not answers. only pieces who, in the imagination of the viewer, could be a puzzle. picture of few states, Lloyd Neck has the rare virtue to be almost a story about yourself. like a drawing made in a fall afternoon in park . or a picture from your younger sister.

"Lloyd Neck" is an American 15.5-minute short film from 8 years ago and none of the people who made it or starred in it made it really famous in the last decade. This is a bit of a shame in terms of the actors as they have at least as many good as bad moments and this is already an achievement in terms of gay-themed short films. I have seen quite a few of these and the acting is usually pretty bad. But even here, it is not good enough to carry the utterly forgettable story. Overall, this was not a particularly great achievement by writer and director Benedict Campbell and it does not make me curious about other stuff he's done. All in all, a thumbs down from me. Don't watch. I am glad this was not a full feature.

This short deals with Travis, a high-school boy; Alex, his kid sister; and Jesse the brother's gay friend. The film opens at Travis's high school track meet and we then meet the kid sister. We also meet Travis' pal Jesse who's a photographer. Travis & his sis Alex are close and Travis spends a good deal of time taking care of Alex due to somewhat absent parents. The pair agree to meet with photographer Jesse to take photos the next day.As with many shorts, this has the feel of a movie joined in progress. While it succeeds in evoking a mood and introducing us to some characters we could come to care about, it's limited in scope and ends before we know much of the story or the back-story.Well worth the 15 or so minutes it takes to view.
