a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
In Christmas Under Wraps, Candace Cameron Bure plays a structured medical student hoping for an impressive hospital to do her residency. To her disappointment, she gets sent to a tiny clinic in the small town of Garland, Alaska. Once there, she notices how full of Christmas cheer everyone is, and the jolliest resident of all, Brian Doyle-Murray, runs a successful factory, owns reindeer, and can't stop eating cookies. Hmm. . .While the story is pretty cute, and Candace is as adorable as she usually is in her Hallmark Christmas movies, the romance is the worst part of Christmas Under Wraps. Her love interest is David O'Donnell, and he doesn't seem trustworthy at all. I kept thinking he was going to lose his temper and hit her; he seemed riddled with problems and simmering anger. But, it's not the worst Christmas movie you can watch on Hallmark this year, especially since Candace always puts her heart into her performances. If you can ignore David, you'll be fine, but if you want a really fantastic Christmas movie, try Hallmark's Switched for Christmas.
Having this set in the wastes of Alaska was a nice touch and made a pleasant change to the streets of big city America or small town America. It would've been great to have a few Inuits knocking about the town... though that wouldn't have fitted in with the Christmas Mythos they are presenting. The writer and the director do a great job in making this an enjoyable story, filled with cheer and festive spirit. The actors bring the script to life and are all beneficial in capturing the essence of Christmas and the film. The only downside to the whole thing is the BIG secret, that isn't much of a secret because you'll probably figure it all out as the new town Doctor gets the tour of the town. That said, it shouldn't deter from your enjoyment of the movie. Good to watch with family or a loved one in front of a crackling fire.
I really enjoyed this Holiday movie and it certainly puts you in a festive mood!! There are quite a few Hallmark ones, some watchable, some really enjoyable and some that really hit that festive spot! It actually reminded me of a movie version of Hart Of Dixie (Rachel Bilson stars in it) not necessarily due to it being holiday related, more due to the fact Rachel Bilson stars also as a Doctor who leaves the big city behind to go to a small town, struggles at first to feel comfortable, then finds romance and ultimately becomes well respected part of their community, it's extremely quaint and a lovable show, this movie has a ton of hints relating to it. The only thing different is the cast really and the fact that the show is not primarily about Christmas. This movie had me rooting for all characters to be honest, there's a ton of likable ones in it, this one and A Snow Globe Christmas are my top favorites for Hallmark so far! So, if you have a soft spot for quaint little towns, where they go all out for the holidays with a likable cast...I say go for it!
Let it Snow re-packaged where where flawless makeup, hair-perfect and pasted-on-smile Candace Cameron Bure plods in with high-heels and designer clothes (if she's really a smart doctor, you think she'd know the weather in Alaska in December?). Within days of her arrival, she is willing to give up the career she's worked hard for (well, in truth, it's implied that Daddy pulled the strings) to pine for a somewhat good looking character who has little definition or motivation, and live in a syrupy small town called "Garland" in Alaska. The ridiculous is implied in that Garland is really the North Pole and Mr Holliday (a character who reminds me of a greasy spoon with a bad attitude) is really Santa Claus (who is apparently headed towards heart disease), is ridiculous and over the top. Scenery very poor. Hallmark has put out more films each Christmas season, but it's quality not quantity that keeps me glued to the screen.
