If not for the stunningly sensationl-Sonakshi Sinha, this movie has all the ingredients of a kachada movie. You can't expect much class from a Telugu director like Prabhu Deva (Vastundi Shigramu..Kachada moviealu-Bhayankara Kattivarasalu-Bhayankara Mustiyuddalu) who is not only the worst but cheap and un-aesthetic choreographer. By letting him direct a movie, the producer, the caliber of Bhansali, is stooping low and has shown disrespect to the Hindi cinema. The music is horrible, and it is a shame, if this duo, were paid for this malady of composition. The humor is low brow and stupid, very much consistent with front-bencher's expectation of comedy.Akshay Kumar,is the highest paid actor in Hindi cinema. He is capable of good acting as in "Patiala House" yet, he keeps churning out stupid, dimwit, buffoonary as in this movie. The action is generic dishum-dishum that a six year old street kid can direct. I give this movie a 3 for Sonakshi (who looks very much Indian as opposed to the imbecile imports, who can't act, dance or speak Hindi,) reminding us of classy actresses of yester-years, the likes of Vijayntimala and Sadhana. The rest of the movie is for the birds, with cheap thrills for the front benchers who relish and dictate the 100 crore movie market, and not for the sophisticated audience, which is in the process of extinction and this movie along with "Dabhang", "3 Idiots" and Delhi Belly" will only help to hasten that process.

Wow, what is there to say about this movie? It is simply too good. The performances on screen were great and the fresh chemistry between Akshay and Sonakshi were good. This movie has been declared the first Blockbuster of 2012 and not even that it had the highest opening ever for a non-holiday weekend! Just imagine how it would be if it was a holiday weekend! After a long hiatus of 7 years, Akshay Kumar the original Khiladi and action superstar has returned to do what he does best on screen once more. After the success of several remakes from the South, why not Akshay? Akshay gave one of his best performances of his life in this movie. The one liners and the masaladaar action was great. Akshay Kumar proves that he can still do action and that too better than any of the other actors in Bollywood. The music from this movie was splendid. What stood out the most was Chamak Challo Chel Chabeeli because it marked the return of Kumar Sanu who gave one too many melodies in the 90's. If only he had more than a verse for the song! The casting was great! One thing I can appreciate about the movie is the fresh villain casting. Prakash Raj is a great actor, but seeing him as villain in every south remake is kind of a bore. For example: Wanted, Singham, etc... The little girl was cute and adorable. The scenes she had was done full justice too. The story line was fantastic. It is sad that the double role was short lived, but I must say Akshay did a marvelous job handling both characters, especially Shiva's. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Shiva do action in a comical way and saying his dialogues in such manner too. Vikram Rathore was good too, however, he deserved more screen time or some time with his daughter at the least. Overall: This movie was mind-blowing! You will definitely enjoy this movie. Do go watch it, it will entertain you to the fullest and is definitely a paisa vasool film.

"Rowdy Rathore" is a clear indication that B-grade is the new Bollywood grade. The trend started off with "Dabaang" , followed suit by many south remakes like "Bodygaurd" , "Singham" & so on. Seeing his contemporaries falling back on to the ever-bankable masala formula , Akshay Kumar tries his hand at the same with this remake of Telugu movie "Vikramarkudu". It is actually going back to the basics as far as Akshay is concerned for he started off with these kinda movies , changed his track post "" to comedies . Currently following string of flops he has taken recourse in the current trend of remaking south Indian movies, especially considering the success these movies are."Vikramarkudu " was a very crass & crude Telugu masala with extra spice which when was remade in Tamil as "Siruthai" , the crassness & crudity was a bit watered-down , though for Tamil standards it was a bit too much. This Hindi version of the same story is the most refined of the three (despite Prabhu Deva's direction..!) with not even 50 % of masala of the original but for Bollywood standards it is one of the most inane movies in recent times. That the audience would lap it up like they did some of the recent blockbusters in Hindi doesn't necessarily means that it is a good movie. Movie has male chauvinism, larger than life fight sequences, coarse dance sequences with garish of costumes, uncouth language & ridiculous love plot. Old (older looking) hero & overweight heroine rounds up the misery for the viewer.Akshay Kumar looks jaded & a far cry from what Ravi Teja & even Karthi managed with this role. His comical scenes irritates while his serious ones make you laugh out loud. Sonakshi Sinha looks heavy & needs a lot to do to reduce her weight as well to develop her acting skills. Nasser is as dependable as ever.Music is heavily inspired from south songs as does the background score.Santhosh Thundiyil is the cinematographer , has done his part well.Prabhu Deva after string of flops in Tamil , has done his second movie in Hindi following his successful remake of "Pokiri" as "Wanted". He has added his signature elements here & there in the narration, except for that nothing much to write about. On the whole, "Rowdy Rathore" is an unabashed masala movie without any pretensions. You would either get entertained or would end up with a severe Migraine.Bottomline: "Rowdy Rathore" is a clear indication that B-grade is the new Bollywood grade. If anything is to say about this movie .... Everything is Loud & Extra ! Extra Action, Extra Songs, Extra Sound, Extra Dialogues, everything is just loud & extra.May be that takes this movie to take great ups & great downs, there is no such thing in between. This is typical Bollywood movie with good songs, great action, some emotions BUT with south Indian touch. The movies takes following ups & downs of your likes, Don't like: First 30-40 mins story doesn't take even a start. Unnecessary songs, Akshay going behind Sonakshi is not that entertaining (& unnecessary) that makes you feel sad (for tickets)Like: Once the story gets starting then there is no stopping, at least for some time. Yes, till intermission you actually get involved in movie. There is not sonakshi & any other dramas, just a story.Don't Like: After intermission, movie still goes to the first part of unnecessary things happening, movie going bit slow & no where near the story things happen.Like: Yes, the end part or climax, this is again coming back to story & see lots of action & fun. It's really nice to see Akshay in this role, following Salman. Truly Akshay's best movie in recent times. Akshay has taken the part very seriously & reminds KHILADI !Sonakshi ... really don't know why she is in movie, but Bollywood film & without actress .. can't imagine, may be that's why she has done her job of looking cute & nice. But sometimes, she looks Rowdier than Akshay (specially in dance steps)Other South Indian Actors have done a BAD job in showing their BIHARI tones ....Those are laughing moments !Anyway, if you want to watch a bollywood movie, this may be good movie in recent years....Overall 6/10 !
