Absolutely Brilliant!
I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
This is a pretty decent horror movie with a couple of different twists to it. It did however have some of the cliché horror movie scenarios, and was a bit predictable in the beginning. Then of course there were several typical horror movie no-no's that were done. But, seemed to be a pretty good story, and it kept me engaged because I wanted to see if I was able to predict what was going to happen, or were they going to surprise me. But, there were many times in the film to where the actors reacted to a life situation way to calmly, and I was thinking to myself, "there is no way that if that really happened in life, would they react like that. I do recommend this film, and it will be interesting to see what you think about it.
I still decided to give this a chance I'm barely halfway through and I really hate it. I really do. Lol don't waste your time. I'm watching it now like oh my ! This movie sucks ballsss And it's very very sad. I wish it could have been more none low budget looking. But congrats who got those film on the big screen but with a name like no tell motel you'd expect a little more entertainment and horror. More like borderrrr 😂😂 Line eight Line nine Line ten This review doesn't even deserve five lines.Man I wouldn't have made an account If I would've known it be this difficult to post a review On the dumbest movie in the world Please just post !! *** This review may contain spoilers ***"No Tell Motel" is a classic horror movie about young teens getting stranded on the beaten path. Director Brett Donowho takes the mix of careless teens that are out for adventure, and places them in a haunted abandoned motel. Unsuspecting to them at first, they are soon plagued by the ghosts that haunt the motel.Donowho creates depth in each character by giving some back story through the movie. From an ex-jock troubled with a drug addiction to a girl hiding her newly found pregnancy from her lover. I had initially believed that this was only to create "likeability" or a way to connect to the characters, but the back story becomes the baseline of the "twist" that was later revealed in the movie. The film is set in modern times and of course as with any horror movie, implicitly cellphone reception was no where to be found. This is where this movie had its faults. In some parts of the movie, you have read the subtle hints. The acting also seemed very cut and dry. The dialog was very laid back and some parts even seem impromptu. At certain points of the movie I found myself saying, "Wait, where's the emotion? Didn't their friend just die?" The director also fails in my book by just rushing from scene to scene. From teen to teen, it seemed like a crash course to get them out of the way."No Tell Motel" lacks in acting and development of the characters. The "scream factor" is there with its dark and confined situations. At certain points of the movie, I did pull towards the edge of my couch, but not too often. The camera angels where pretty straight forward and dead on to the actors. There where no noticeable signature shots that jumped out such as low angels, close-ups, and panning. And the music and ambiance really just relied on the silent creeks and crashes that where meant to startle the viewer. The story overall is just a regurgitation of a horror baseline with a different twist. This movie almost reminded me of a hybrid of the movie Wrong Turn.
So I have no idea what happens during the last ten minutes or so... my flash crashed while I was watching this. I just picked some random movie to watch online and munch on my snacks, but this turned out to be really good, even joined IMDb to review this. So, please if anyone would do a whole synopsis thing, to know what happens at the end? I jumped a one time or two. Children are the spookiest thing I know from scary movies, and in a way this is like Pet Sematary where it isn't the cat that gets to die. It is very dark and looming filmed all the way and I like that. It is not all happening in the dark though like some films are way too dark. So I was thinking whether the acting is 'right' for this kind of movie, but mostly you are inside the characters. This could be a predictable film! But you have to just cast this aside like the kids do with that swing that swings by itself, while talk hotheadedly about something...
