Thanks for the memories!
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Like most people here, i got this movie from the wal-mart bin. I thought it couldn't be that bad. Boy was i wrong! This movie is MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATRE 3,000 worthy. It starts off with two elf dudes running from the Red Cap. Both die after being hit with the cap's weapons. These deaths don't foreshadow anything else. These are the only deaths in the movie. The plot line is of a typical one. Loner boy gets picked on my bullies, meets a strange man, and discovers a whole new world where he is accepted. Nothing new here. If you listen to the commentary, the director says himself that the costumes were put together. And it shows. A lot. The audio is off kilter too. It shows a lot like at the part where max's father goes woah. The audio is either a little late or early(I'm not sure). In some cases the audio is so crude it becomes like a godzilla film. The movie is not all lost. The clothes and looks of max and his class mates make them look like they should have been in the SMASHING PUMPKINS' 1979 music video. And thats awesome. Also, the make-up. The make-up is actually pretty good. The best is on the red cap and lord dagda. Speaking of characters, whats up with TOM TIT TOT? Whats sad is that if you look at the making of bonus feature, everyone takes this movie seriously. Little did they know that instead of making a fantasy, they were actually making a comedy. Did they really think that this would become an American classic? If this was in theatres, it prob. would make a couple thousand.Overall, if you're looking for a good laugh, watch this movie. From the characters, dialog pauses, and an annoying mouse, this movie is funny.
The six year old in the house was given this as a gift. I don't know if the person was intentionally trying to cause the harm to our sanity or not. Yes, true grasps of sanity were stripped away with the viewing of this.I have suffered Care Bears, Dora, even Elmo... and in comparison, they are high cinema. The costuming looks as if the local Live Action Role Playing group was approached and told to bring their outfits. The fight scenes look of the same caliber. And if I continue on the LARP hypothesis, the back story of the fantasy world could come from them also.If this is so, then I am sure that those that play the game fully enjoy it and it is a compelling story, but there is too much missing to fully pull in an audience not in the know. All in all, not a compelling story, nor dynamic acting.
Hello.I encourage anyone who has not seen the film to watch it and judge for yourself. It has the flavor of "Harry Potter"; "Lord of the Rings" and "Stuart Little". I played Tom T. Tot. I have been in the the acting business quite a while. I have found that there is a type of review you may need to be wary of - the one that is totally negative or abusive. It turns out that sometimes other film makers or actors who are jealous, deliberately write bad reviews to make their competition look bad. They realize their product is not as good and they "poison the well" before anyone has had time to drink. I get no residuals or perks and I am not afraid of criticism.Anytime I watch the film, I am entertained. My understanding is that when the market was canvassed it was well received by 8 to 10 year olds, especially girls. Younger folk like it as well. I enjoyed making the film. I will not comment on my own performance, other than to say the director & writer were pleased and it makes me nervous watching me play this frenetic character - but that was the whole idea anyway. In general, I am told I am most kids' favorite character. I appreciate that because I work hard to entertain. Parents have told me that their kids re-watch it. What greater praise can a actor who does a kid's film receive than that the person with the least longest attention span, is so entertained, that they want to see the film again. But you watch it and judge for yourself.I am not going to comment on every actor, but I think Tim & Princess are very good and the mouse is very entertaining. The prosthetic make-up is superb. The plot is cohesive. The film quality is good, if not better than many other independent films I have seen. The fight scenes are well choreographed and believable. Although the other make-up is good and the acting in general gives the film a storybook feel. Hey it is a kid's film! The special effects are primitive but highly effective. I think it is the adults that want all the bells and whistles but the kids are satisfied with the simple and let their imagination do the rest.Note: The Queen & Tim's mother are not the same actress as some have alleged. The sound was "recorded" live and then re-dubbed two times. It turns out the sound "engineer" delivered a product of which nearly all of it was unusable. He never received a screen credit it was so bad. After we dubbed in the sound, then we had to do it again because someone lost/deleted the copy. For something that has been dubbed twice, I think it is a spectacular job.Your continued "balanced" comments about my performance and the film are welcome. If anyone would like to offer some constructive criticism as to how I could have performed better or what I should have done differently, I am all ears (pun intended).
For a film that supposedly is so awful one must remember that this is an independent project with a non-existent budget. And for all the visible boom mics and dead rubber rats it still should be noted that this was a serious project for those involved and I have to give credit to director/producer Kevin Summerfield for pulling together a tough shoot with what he had. (did he need that Magic Book pages credit though?)It only goes to show how important a good script is. Without interesting, natural dialogue and a cohesive storyline any film will feel limp. The commentary also explains that the sound engineer was incompetent thus the regrettable re-dub. I would love to know the entire budget (the only mention is that the costume budget was under $1,000. Doesn't really help though) and also who got the tie-in with Wal-Mart. Perhaps it was a trade off to get all those candles? What the film lost in sparkle smoke it gained with distribution. The commentary is great! It's practically a how-to into low budget film making. How to cut corners with out making the film out of place. Thank God people still have the passion to go through with making their own movie. Look at the box. You know what you're getting. But as for the passion behind the film making process, it can not be denied. How many of us can say that we have a hyperlink on the IMDb?? Filmed beautifully in great natural locations in Maryland and Virgina. Nice editing job by producer/director. Looses 5 stars for poor script and sound [email protected]
