It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

I know I don't. I have never been too big on The Peanuts and this half-hour here cannot change my approach to them either. Emmy voters think different obviously as they nominated this cartoon from over 40 years ago. Then again they did so almost every time and sometimes even handed them the win, so they were probably a bit biased. The director is Phil Roman again and Charles M. Schulz obviously wrote it. I found the entire Easter Beagle plot pretty uninteresting. The Beagle's scenes with Woodstock weren't better either. The only somewhat funny thing were the failed attempts at cooking and painting Easter Eggs. Pretty much all of the child actors who voiced the characters did not act in anything else, so no famous names here either where one could be interested about their work in their younger years. All in all, not a memorable short movie. Not recommended.

Peppermint Patty is trying to color eggs but Marcie keeps cooking them wrong. Woodstock finds his nest flooded and complains to Snoopy. Linus is annoying his sister Lucy with tales of the Easter Beagle when all she wants are presents from Schroeder. Sally wants new shoes and Charlie Brown brings her to the mall. Patty is there to buy more eggs and Snoopy buys a birdhouse. Sally is hesitant to believe Linus and his Easter Beagle who is suppose to be bringing a basket of Easter Eggs.I just love Peppermint Patty and Marcie. They are a great comedy duo. I can't help but laugh every time. The story is cohesive and fun. Charlie Brown actually steps back a little and everybody else has their own fun stories. There is never any doubt that Snoopy will rescue the day as the Easter Beagle.

....because in this Charlie Brown outing several dozen get destroyed! Easter time in Charlie Brown's neck of the woods, and the kids find new and interesting ways to make it amusing. First off is Peppermint Patty's futile attempt to teach Marcie how to make colored eggs. Back to the Discount Mart they go...quite a few times....for another dozen. Then we see Snoopy trying to create a comfortable bird house for Woodstock... this he does but accidentally destroys it, so...back to the Discount Mart he goes...for another birdhouse. Then we see Sally wanting a new pair of shoes and persuades her big brother Charlie Brown to take her shopping for a pair....so off to the Discount Mart they go....where ol' Chuck is disgusted to see a pre-Christmas sale is underway..."Only 246 days until Christmas!!" And while this is going on, Linus is preparing for the Easter Beagle to arrive with eggs for the good boys and girls. The rest of the gang still has yet to let him live down the whole Great Pumpkin thing from a few specials before. While not deep or sentimental like the original Christmas special, this show manages to draw laughs in only the way the Peanuts can do. This is a funny special which like so many in the series manages to entertain through humor, dialogue, satire, and silliness.

What else is there to say about the Easte Beagle. As usual Snoopy steals the show. Good Old Snoopy always steals the show in the Peanuts specials. However, not only would it not be Easter without Snoopy, we also need to include Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang. Who cannot love the misadventures of the Peanuts gang? Their specials are what makes the holidays of the year great. From Peppermint Patty struggle to teach Marcie to color Easter eggs. From Snoopy buying the perfect birdhouse for Woodstock. To Linus always having a way of words for the Easter Holiday. To Good Old Charlie Brown, as always, dreading the holiday. Snoopy as the Easter Beagle is a must for Easter and something generations of people can enjoy every year at Easter. The Easter Beagle is Easter.
