Prater
Vienna’s Prater is an amusement park and a desire machine. No mechanical invention, no novel idea or sensational innovation could escape incorporation into the Prater. The diverse story-telling in Ulrike Ottinger’s film “Prater” transforms this place of sensations into a modern cinema of attractions. The Prater’s history from the beginning to the present is told by its protagonists and those who have documented it, including contemporary cinematic images of the Prater, interviews with carnies, commentary by Austrians and visitors from abroad, film quotes, and photographic and written documentary materials. The meaning of the Prater, its status as a place of technological innovation, and its role as a cultural medium are reflected in texts by Elfriede Jelinek, Josef von Sternberg, Erich Kästner and Elias Canetti, as well as in music devoted to this amusement venue throughout the course of its history.

I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

Great movie. Disregard any review calling it a "blatant E.T. rip-off", sure there are a couple parallels but this movie is really quite unique. The cast is charming, all the characters are truly characters, and the musical score by Joseph Williams (son of Star-Wars composer John Williams) really draws you in. The town of Vernon is inhabited by all sorts of oddball characters that really enrich the atmosphere. The actors performances, especially Paul Winfield's, really bring it all together and make it real, it is evident that everyone gave this movie they're best shot. This was my favorite movie as a kid, and I still love it! Also, this is NOT a bubblegum kid's movie, the language is spiced with some colorful language, nothing vulgar, though. A charming movie that kids and parents alike will enjoy!

Man I love Gator Face! Probably the coolest movie ever, without fail! I've never regretted watching it, and I've seen it at least 50 times! Great acting from the kids, from Bob in the swamp, from all the townsfolk of Vernon. Man I love the town of Vernon. I seriously wish it existed in real life, so I could go and play pranks of the townsfolk like the kids do in the movie. Then I'd definitely go frolic about through the swamp with Gator Face.'Gator Face: The Legend' is good for kids, teens, adults, and even old people!Do yourself a favor and WATCH GATOR FACE!!!!! (I do...every day.)

Gator Face is a movie suitable for the whole family but is particularly aimed at kids. It's an adventure film that kids will wish happened to them, a movie where kids shine. This film teaches us to try to understand things that are different and not to use violence first. You will experience fear, humor excitement, sympathy, friendship, sadness and ultimately joy. It's one of the few "monster" movies out there that is pretty tame and safe for kids to watch yet still be exciting. The younger viewer can watch other kids be heroes and best of all, in the end, right triumphs over might, and understanding over ignorance. This is an example of the type of movies that should be made with children in mind.
