That was an excellent one.
I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Blistering performances.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
July 13th and the day had come.. The whole of Tamil Nadu were waiting for bated breath for this day, where their handsome style icon would arrive to the relish of his humongous fan base..Releasing in almost 2500 screens worldwide, this mid-year special made fans go crazy in expectation.. Heavy marketing from the team making use of social networks as a piercing bullet did wonders for the movie.. Simultaneously landing as David Billa in Telugu, Ajith's Billa 2 was the most awaited movie of the year yet!Billa 2 traces the roots of David Billa, an Eelam refugee from Sri Lanka and his journey on becoming a dreaded don..Billa 2 boasts of a big starcast starting off with the mighty Ajith and moving on to numbers of characters who grace the screen in one scene and trace it in the next..Billa 2 kicks off with a well-choreographed knife fight sequence.. The opening titles are impressive too with the childhood story of Billa told through pictures.. The highly engaging first half which shows the rise of Billa is a treat to watch as it is packed with a clean screenplay and strong dialogues.. Stunts too, are neatly done even though they might be bobbed down a bit on the logical front.. At the interval block, you will be left bedazzled and ask for more..Billa 2 begins to falter in the second half where it just wanders without any definite initiative.. The movie begins to slow down and relies hugely on its stunts thereafter.. The climax stunt sequence is packaged with grandeur and risky stunts but doesn't manage to pack a punch..Billa 2 is Ajith all the way.. With terrific screen presence and charisma, he delivers an impressive performance much to the delight of his fans.. The villains Sudhanshu Pandey and Vidyut Jammwal are majestic and fit the junction as perfect antagonists.. The leading ladies, Parvathy Omanakuttan and Bruna Abdullah have less screen space and don't live up to the expectations created.. Parvathy is trash in her acts while Bruna Abdullah is pure eye candy and looks ravishing on screen..The supporting cast consisting of Krishna Kumar, Manoj K Jayan, Ilavarasu and Sriman have small roles intercepted into the script.. Ilavarasu is undoubtedly missed in the second half..Billa 2 is a technically brilliant film.. Cinematography by R.D.Rajashekhar is top notch and the Red Epic works wonders in his favour.. The fight sequences are done in a stylish manner and seemingly justify the A certificate.. However, the scene where Ajith takes over the whole force with just a bare W1300 is one which will test your patience..Dialogues by Era Murugan are razor sharp and are one of the big plus points of the movie.. Editing by Suresh Urs is fine as the whole movie is cropped into just 2 hours and 7 minutes.. Musically, Billa 2 is brought down with average songs.. The BGM is apt at places and loud at the others.. Yuvan seems to have overused the Billa theme throughout the movie, as it is heard in a lot of scenes..Thanks to its big budget and lavish making, Billa 2 stands to give you the feel of a Hollywood movie.. However, the absence of a strong script and a taut screenplay bring the film down.. A little bit care taken over the written part of the movie would have ended in a world class product.. With the absence of big competitors except for the buzzing Naan Ee, Billa 2 would space out as a treat for action movie lovers..Verdict : Style Yes. Substance No. Watch it for the grandeur!
First of all, this is one of the honest action movies which doesn't compromise with a separate comedy and love track for commercial aspect. The film is about the rise of a Gangster, so logically the hero is not worshiped as a demigod, the big magic that runs throughout the movie is a single word called 'AJITH'.If u are an Ajith fan, then this movie is a treat for you, if u are an action fan, this movie is a must watch for you, but if u are neither one of this, then this movie is a doubtful entertainer for u.The heroines in the movie, doesn't have much to do, to be frank, all the girls dancing in all songs are equally good looking as the heroines, so its tough to recognize the heroines separately if u are unknown abut Bruna & Parvathy. The movie could have definitely be made more engaging with some compromise in the screenplay, but the director wants to be very dedicated so that allows some slowness in the second half of movie. the villain Vidyut could have been used more for his martial arts skills, but, Ajith has really done an excellent job throughout the movie in all aspects(except dance). His dialog delivery brings the roof down in cinema halls as the audience are ferociously enjoying all his punch dialogs and styles. The Billa movie has the potential to be made as a franchise movie like Bourne movies, though David Billa died in the original movie, the makers could come with logical ideas to make another sequel to this action entertainer.Overall, this movie is definitely a landmark in the career of AjithKumar and a beginning of a new trend of "Prequel" to Indian film industry..So go and watch the movie, though you are not enjoyed as much as Hollywood action thrillers, you will definitely not regret for watching it.
The movie is all about Ajith's heroism - though as a baddie. It is out and out Ajith film. On the flip side, the story lags on-the-edge elements. There are parts where the story is predictable and it could have been made interesting by bringing in some thrill to the story.Billa 2 is stylishly shot, and Ajith carries the film on his shoulders, but that's all there is to it. When it comes to screenplay, logical plots and characterization, it fails to meet expectations.Movie has a wafer-thin storyline. But Chakri Toleti has intentionally kept the pace swift enough, leaving no time for the viewer to notice loose ends. Billa 2 is strictly for Ajith fans who want their favorite star to be seen as an invincible person on the screen always. But one would have preferred to see Ajith as brain than brawny hero.
Firstly, let's take the case of Mankatha. This was touted as a landmark film, being your 50th, directed by a very talented Venkat Prabhu. You played the role of a character that wants only one thing - money. He would do absolutely anything to achieve his goals. I caught it only on its second weekend, and even so, there were enough cheers to turn it into a celebration. As always, it was greatly satisfying to see you on the big screen. But as the movie progressed, I started worrying about certain actions of your character. My concern grew larger when the audiences were applauding everything you did, irrespective of its morality. After the movie finished, I was left with mixed feelings as I admire you as an actor & star, but I was wondering if what I watched was good for cinema as a whole. Especially, watching it with my son and seeing him cheer all the way and loving every gesture of yours, I was wondering if it is indeed a good influence. But I felt I should not criticize it harshly as it was your 50th, and it was a celebration of your stardom. Therefore, I didn't write this article back then.Again, recently, I watched Billa 2 with my son, who was over the clouds on bagging back row internet tickets for a weekend show. Again, my son was cheering at every punchline and unfortunately, every murder you committed. The movie went on as I waited for some hint of redemption or consequence, but I was disappointed. This time, I did not leave with mixed feelings, for I was completely sure of my feelings towards the film - pity & fear.
