A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

This is my first review. Seeing the other reviews, they did not seem to make full justice to the film, so here is mine. Have you ever seem a movie where the climax or any of the scenes make you well up? This is one movie that can definitely stir emotion. Not to say it is a sad movie, but it is one that definitely hits deep in the heart . What makes this movie great is not just the fact that the storyline of a man loving a deaf and dumb girl is quite original, but that the screenplay matches the story at every instance. The movie is all about a music composer(brilliantly portrayed by Prithviraj, probably his best role in Tamil) trying to win the heart of a headstrong deaf and dumb girl(portrayed by Jyothika, who although a bit plastic in some of the expressions, did a great job with the overall role). He is assisted in this task by his best friend (played by a brilliant Prakash Raj, whose acting in this film bring up glorious memories of his best ever acting performance in Iruvar) and her best friend(portrayed by Swarnalaya, from Alaipayuthey fame). The film is a very true depiction of a life faced by deaf and dumb people particularly in the sequence where Jyothika gets angry about Phritviraj trying to create a voice for her, thereby trying to make her feel that she is incomplete and needs an imagined voice to gain a place in someone's heart. The story does let you down in certain places. particularly in the latter stages of the movie, but is definitely a movie to watch.Music by Vidyasagar is really great, the background score always makes you feel a part of the film and the songs are just amazing. In particular, the song Kaatrin Mozhi, whose tunes are used throughout the film, is just one of the most thoughtful songs you can ever hear. The lyrics are perfectly in tune with the movie and the music just touches your soul. Raadha Mohan as a director reminds you of some of the earlier works of Mani Rathnam. His earlier works might have not inspired too many, but this film is a piece of art.All in all, this is a movie a true Tamil movie fan can never miss, and if you are one that has never seen a Tamil movie or are one that wants to show someone who hasn't seen one, this is a great movie to get one into it(particularly if you cant find a Mani Rathnam movie). Watch it and you wont regret the experience

I watched this film after a month it got released. Indeed it was a very good entertainer with a handful of emotional jolts.Story. Love story. Between a guy and a deaf-and-dumb girl. The girl is Jothika who played that part wonderfully. That guy is Prithwiraj who is a cinema music composer. He and Prakash Raj are friends and room mates. Swarnamalya comes as Jothika's friend.Script. The script is quite a neat and decent one. Radha Mohan is known for this in his earlier movie 'Alzakiya Theeye'. Smells like a Malyalam script(He is a Malayalee). In the whole movie I felt tears on my eyes on one scene. His direction is good. Dialogs are written by Viji. They are humorous and make the characters lively. One of strengths of the movie is the dialogs. Another strength is the music. I could not believe Vidyasagar's music. Such a beautiful melodies (really original?.. sorry could not believe it..that much extraordinary). Balaram's voice on the main song along with the lyrics are one among the long lasting ones. The actors all are good. In the top ranking order Jothika, Prakashraj, Prithwiraj, Wwarnamalya, the lost-out professor, the flat secretary etc. Prakashraj does this small work just like that. He is such a talented actor. Jothika has evolved into good acting with this movie. The dump character's sign language she mixes with her face expressions beautifully (no voices for her). I have my own DVD of this movie to watch it whenever I like to watch it. It surely is a classic. Especially the climax scenes between Jothika, Prithvi, Prakash and Swarna. In 90s when I was in college we saw one movie 'The Children Of Lesser Gods'. I am pretty sure that Molzhi has 80% similar to that movie on story-line. Both the lead actors in that movie got Oscars for their performance. The actors learned sign language for about two years to act in that film. In that movie that guy works as a teacher in a deaf-and-dumb school. That girl works as a sweeper in that school who was also a deaf-and-dumb girl. That too is a love story. One thing Molzhi had additionally is the 'deaf girl feeling music'; which in my view is the artistic insight of the director into the humane nature. In this expression Molzhi crossed 'The Children Of Lesser Gods' a few steps ahead. Absolute feeling of an artiste as a deaf person. Alas, I heard this(deaf girl's feeling of music) too is from some other movie. There are lots of movies that has some inspirational movies behind them. Molzhi is one such a movie but still I can be OK with it. My wishes to Radha Mohan, Viji, Baradwaj and Jothika who played the keys for this beautiful 'sign language'(even though it is an imitation).

its not often u get to see a CLEAN entertainer film which is based on deaf, dumb ppl this film has comedy, romance and everything which u don't rlly find in other films of this genre gr8 chemistry between the 2 heroes story is about 2 ppl who work as back ground music directors for films. they rent a home in an apartment and how they interact with the other ppl in the apartment is showed in a simple but superb way. film also shows how the life of a disabled person actually is how their reactions towards love, friendship actually arePerformances: jyothika was obviously d best (much better than her overacting in c'mukhi) the 2 lead actors were also first-rate supporting actress was not bad the other characters enact their part equally well MUSIC is also 1st ratewho shud watch this film? for those ppl who consider black as a gr8 n realistic film shud watch this :)

Its been a long time that I have seen such a CLEAN entertainer. I have watched it several times. Other than Jyothika and Prakashraj all the names are kind of new. But the performance of all who has been casted have done a GREAT job. All the lines are funny. the levity is maintained throughout the movie. There was not a single dull moment. The highlight for me is not the acting of JO, since it was expected from her, she was brilliant importantly not overacting like she did in Chandramukhi. The highlight is the interaction between Prithiviraj(hero), Prakashraj(his sidekick) along with Bhramanandam(apartment president). Even with two on screen was good and when all the three come together they bring the roof down. Even though the out of bathroom scene is clichéd it was well done here. The cockroach scene and the following hospital make you go to hospital since your ribs will be in pain due to laughing. The score by Vidyasagar must be mentioned. It was cool. Prakashraj and Radhamohan have given a better product than their earlier product Alazhia theeye. All I can say is stop reading this and go and watch the movie.
