Best movie of this year hands down!
the audience applauded
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
First of all the good: good recitation. Now the big problems on this movie: **** spoiler **** 1) the female protagonist is good however she is anorexic (ok a pregnant woman could be anorexic but it's not good message for viewers nor for the person in that state or condition); 2) predictable: after 20 minutes the plot is understandable; 3) the story is clear, what is not clear is the reason the main female character continues to stay together an assassin when she is so worry for her pregnancy (that's not coherent: to live together the real menace against her and her baby); 4) she discovers the dead body of the victim of a murder but she doesn't inform the police; 5) she is worried for the disappearance of a girl but doesn't inform any authorities after having detecting the corpse; 6) the director wants to make a movie which lasts the usual time line forcing the story to be prolix and contradictory without any event to add; 7) this kind of movie often tends to implement a phantom/spirit which seems evil but it is not evil; why the spirit terrifies the person which should be help to solve the case?; why the spirit is not calm so to unveil immediately the story about her murder? ("because otherwise the movie immediately ends"). Conclusion: there is no story,,, only the try to generate a valid motivation to see the movie until the end. This movie could finish after 20 minutes. I would have to give 5 stars to this movie for effort but I'm too angry because of the lost occasion to make a decent movie. I dislike for the actors and their duty. My suggestions: don't make this kind of movie, ask for Rebecca Da Costa to eat food before to make movies or other kind of job because anorexia is not beauty but to be as coat hanger is.
I like to check IMDb ratings to gauge the potential of a movie before watching, however I'm glad I did not follow this rule for Breaking at the Edge as I would have missed a good movie (it was actually one of the reviews here that convinced me to give it a go)."The Firstling" (as it's called on my streaming service) scores points for the suspense, good scary scenes, good dialogues and a storyline that holds well enough. But to me the biggest selling point of the movie is the performance of Rebecca Da Costa as the beautiful and intelligent young wife. She brings a spark and depth to her character that is unexpected and really pulls the movie up.
And another horror was made. Nothing new, different, just the same ol', same ol' stuff.Breaking at the Edge is one of the most common kind of horror out there, a little weaker than most, it goes pretty straight without trying too much and then as expected, it ends with that shocker third of a twist. Nothing to recommend, no reason to watch it, probably not even to pass the time, you can find much better very easy. And as fast as the plot-built went, so shall I, just said what I had to, warned you, now it's up to you to do the rest.Cheers
I didn't expect to like this movie based on the trailer but I didn't expect to dislike it as much as I did. The two stars I gave this movie are only because Milo Vintimiglia is easy on the eyes and a good actor, but even having him to watch did not save this movie for me. The acting and directing are tolerable, but the plot and story line were completely ridiculous to me. Nothing is what it seems in this movie, which I guess is a common theme in horror flicks but I found "the truth" to be completely unbelievable and it ruined the entire film for me. They want you to believe the pregnant woman is crazy up until the end, but spoiler...you find out she's not actually the crazy one. That's their 'clever' plot twist, everything she sees is actually real. This movie was asking me to suspend too much disbelief for me to enjoy. I hope to never be subjected to this film again.
