That was an excellent one.
Thanks for the memories!
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
The effects were terrific, especially for a $30 grand budget. Rapid editing and shaky cam were a bit annoying at times. Extremely low budget indie horror flick. It makes for an enthralling and fast-paced horror adventure. At 75 minutes, the filmmakers pack in every bit of entertainment value.Saw it first in 2007. I rented the DVD after I saw the cover of a half zombie n Dimension extreme on it. Was better than new day of the dead (both films had fast running zombies).Even the crappy video quality didn't make me turn it off. What more interesting is that it took 9 days filming the whole movie. I thought for this amount of time, they did a great job shooting. Incredible energy thanks to hardcore metal music, incredibly over-the-top gore effects, and an awesomely impressive dedication to playing its horror/action straight. The opening morgue scene was awesome. Of course it had its cheesiness, its flaws, bad acting, zero plot but it's an extremely low budget indie man. It was entertaining with over the top gore n fast paced action. Director Steven C. Miller (Aggression scale, Under the bed, Silent night) did a fantastic job.
This is truly a bizarre movie. The title alone was what got me sold to see it. However, the pay-off leaves much to be desired. Made on an extremely low budget with a bunch of less-than-talented actors, it takes place over a 24-hour period in a small town called Downey. For some inexplicable reason, that the film never quite makes clear, corpses are coming back to life and going on their usual cannibalistic rampage. The story is nonexistent, so I won't even bother trying to explain it. This time, the film follows a group of high schoolers as they go to house parties (in the afternoon?), raves (consisting of three other people) and ultimately wind up back at school. At every turn, zombies suddenly attack and slaughter close to two-thirds of the existing cast. Usually there's some kind of tough guy theatrics that follow each attack, which seems (for a zombie movie) totally unbelievable. Near the end, the filmmakers try to throw in a corrupt government sub-plot, but it's too little too late! And the way it ends makes it obvious that the filmmakers were planning a sequel. Happily, I think it's safe to say that'll never happen! Oh and if you happen to see it, and it has a weird flicker effect, nothing's wrong with your eyes, it's the film! Trust me, I've seen it on two different televisions just to be certain. There's nothing to explain the bizarre title. And there's not enough to recommend it either! Only see this film if you're intending to mock it, ala MST3K.
It's hard to rate these ultra-low budget movies. Should we take into account that they were made for mere pennies, or that every problem the filmmaker's encountered were multiplied by the fact they had little to no money.... The easy answer is no. A movie should entertain on merit. An audience should have no extra obligation to enjoy a movie just because the filmmakers didn't have the proper money to make it. That said, it's pretty impressive what some of these filmmakers turn out. And having finally watched Automaton Transfusion it's no surprise that director Steve C. Miller has moved on to bigger and better projects. Is this movie good? Well, kinda. The acting, like in most of these movies, is hit and miss, mostly miss. The script is the same. Some good ideas, but also some really bad dialog and uneven pacing. The direction is surprisingly solid and there is one particularly inspired piece of gore. One other thing, something seems to be wrong with the image. it stutters throughout. I actually sent my DVD back and got a new one because I though something was wrong with DVD. I did this twice. All three disks suffered the same issue. Weird.
Summary: Some teenagers and zombies. That's really all of the story. Notably the zombie virus is man-made.Review: I give this movie one extra star for actually referring to the zombies as "zombies". I think it's the first zombie movie I saw, where people have heard about zombies (dah, there's about a hundred movies about them as well as books, comics and so on) and are not wondering what wondrous creatures these might be. Thank you! Other than that, the flick is crap, except it has definitely the highest gore level I've seen in a zombie movie so far. Even Dexter would faint at the sight of so much blood (as he is known to have before).Highlight: Intelligent ZombiesNotable Actors: Actors?Gore Level: 5/5
