The story of a farmer forced into conscription, who has been looking to get out of the army ever since. His great chance arrives when he stumbles upon a wounded general from an enemy state, and he kidnaps him, intending to claim credit for the capture, which includes five acres of land, and most importantly, honorable discharge from the army.

Memorable, crazy movie
Absolutely Fantastic
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
I won't give a plot summary, as many have done so already, so instead I just want to stress how good of a film this is. In terms of technical expertise this film isn't really what you are looking for but it makes up for that in every other aspect.Every emotion is present in full force throughout this film. The action scenes perfectly balance intense and exciting with comedic elements and some very impressive stunts (to be expected of Jackie Chan) but to me the fight scenes are simply the icing on the cake for the rest of the plot. When watching this film I am either laughing my ass off, smiling along with the character's happiness or tearing up like a little bitch. This film plays my emotions like a fiddle and I cannot stress enough how good the writing and acting is throughout the film. It's not a simple action comedy as many on here suggest but a deep emotional journey for both the main protagonists and Jackie Chan really gets a chance to demonstrate his dramatic talent alongside his incredible stunts which never seem to get old.I recommend this film whole heartily to anyone. It's one of those somewhat unheard of masterpieces in my opinion. It's not a Citizen Kane or 2001: A Space Odyssey type masterpiece but it is not trying to be. Everything this film attempts it lands with expertise and seeming effortlessness. I cannot recommend this film enough. Just watch it. You won't regret it.
You will probably find "Little Big Soldier" entertaining as long as you know what you will expect. Anyone who thinks that Jackie Chan in this movie will be kicking butt throughout will be disappointed. In fact, he only has ONE scene where he displays his trademark expert fighting skills, and that sequence is a dream sequence! His character here is more of a normal person. Still, there's still plenty to entertain audiences. Chan does well playing a more normal person who was drafted into a war he didn't want to participate in. There is plenty of action and comic relief, though there is a dark undertone throughout, including a clear anti-war message. If there is anything to object about the movie, I would say that it is the cinematography. For some reason, the movie was photographed in a way that has all the colors washed out, and it doesn't look very attractive. Fortunately the positive attributes found in the movie compensate for the ugly visual look.
I was expecting a good movie, but it was far from being good. The journey in this was just dull and boring for the most part. The humor in this sort of works but it just didn't know which direction it wanted to go with this. One of the main reason I decided to check this movie out is because it has Yoo Seung Jun in it, who use to be a popular Korean star until he neglected his military service. But anyways his charisma really shows in this and his acting was alright and he did the best he could with what he was given. Another negative is it's pacing is also pretty bad and just seems out of nowhere at times. The fight sequences aren't even that good and there is nothing memorable about it. Except maybe still watching the old Jackie still jumping around and evading attacks. I give this movie a 4 because I thought the ending was alright, maybe because it was sort of unexpected.4/10
A fun but flawed period piece from Jackie Chan, which sees the star indulging in some of his madcap comedy routines while at the same time the film takes more serious inroads in its look at the nature of warfare and violence in the historical age. Indeed, LITTLE BIG SOLDIER is an unusual film, unsure whether it wants to be a serious, character-based drama or the usual knockabout action film that we'd expect from the star. So at one stage we have Jackie beating off a trio of barbarian bad guys and the next we get some moralising about the pointlessness of battle and the fate of warring kingdoms.Still, even at this late stage in his career, Jackie is difficult to dislike as the star. His stunts may be less outrageous and his fighting less impressive than it was twenty years ago, but he brings a warmth and genuine presence to his role. There's some fun to be had from the premise of two enemies being forced to travel together (bringing to mind all those old handcuffed-together comedies like MIDNIGHT RUN) and the action scenes, while unspectacular, are solid. Certainly not my favourite Jackie Chan film of recent years though, this pales in comparison to the likes of the powerful SHINJUKU INCIDENT.
