Fantastic!
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Wish i could give this 10 stars. This is THE best gang wars movie ever. The acting is A+, and i'm not being sarcastic. This movie will have you planted and have you peeping ALL the special features after the movie has ended. So BUY THIS FILM before its gone, Crack a beer(s) or a bottle of JD and get this movie rolling, you will love it, and the gore spots aswell :) The Short film My Sweet Satan is a very nice addition to the deadbeat at dawn special addition DVD since the short Sweet Satan is now out of print and banned in some countries. Its a true story of a murder done by a couple wanna be satanic metal heads, one that dealt acid, No spoilers here. Buy this flick, there are still some left at HKflix.com, get'em before they're gone. I wish there were more gang flicks like this!! :(
This is easily one of the most entertaining movies of all time. If you are sick. There is so much cheese, action, gore and just plain awesomeness here, I consider this a classic. Jim Van Bebber is the walking incarnation of Bruce Dickinson's voice. Must be seen to be believed. Let me count the ways: Awesome fighting in a graveyard. Jim Van Bebber yelling "YOU F*CKERS!!!!" at the city. Jim conking a dude over the head and stealing his chopper. Bonecrusher's monologue about killin. 10/10
This is probably the worst movie I have ever had the opportunity to watch. The acting was terrible, and the story was bland and lacked luster. The only really redeeming qualities of this movie were few and far between and usualy involved me laughing my ass off at how bad it was. for example the father freaking out over his last beer was priceless and deserves and Oscar, the one shot knock over the head with a nunchuck to steal some guys bike was hilarious and deserved a few rewinds, and the director is pretty good with nunchucks. If it were a five minute short film made up of these three things in no particular order and was called "Nunchuck Knockout For Dad`s Last Beer" it would have been amazing. To bad I`m a fan of really low budget stuff, but this didn`t cut it.
Deadbeat At Dawn is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Its miniscule budget works in its favour, and the amateur acting, while unpolished, is mostly very convincing. The acting honours go to Mark Pitman as Bone Crusher; despite minimal screen time and dialogue, he's unforgettable. Writer/director/editor/make-up supervisor/stunt coordinator/star Jim Van Bebber does an excellent all-around job, abetted by Michael King's cinematography. The psychedelic kaleidoscopic transitions are a bit much, but otherwise this is an excellent movie.
