Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Snow White has a few nice turns of dialogue, a plot that feels heavily padded, a few competent actors (Miranda Richardson, Clancy Brown, Warwick Davis), one or two decent effects -- and almost no life at all.Maybe the movie should have been named "Sleeping Beauty," as it features some nice sets and locations, but they are inhabited by actors who intone their lines almost expressionlessly in an almost stationary, dreamy, sleepwalking fashion. The only actor who seems to be having any fun is Vera Farmiga, and she dies in the first five minutes. She reappears playing Miranda Richardson being her -- again, for about five minutes. She can't save the movie. The dwarfs are lifeless and uncompelling. They haven't much to say or do except look uncomfortable, say silly (not funny-silly, but dumb-silly) things, and occasionally participate in a very awkwardly-done special effect (Director: "Everybody crouch a little, then stand up and lean left together; they'll turn you into a rainbow later. It'll look cool, I promise!").My advice: unless saying "Huh? Okay, whatever" for ninety minutes is your idea of fun, don't bother.
Lots of neat symbolism - I thought Miranda Richardson did a killer job with a tight script, some great sets (the room of mirrors is brilliant)sharp directionand great cinematography.I can't think of a better film depiction of a woman who suffers from a narcissistic personality disorder - it's clinically right on the button - - I guess itjust depends on why you watch a movie - for me it was really arrestingI do agree Kirstin Kreuk was probably out of her depth atthe time (2001)against Miranda Richardson... few wouldn'tbe at her age. Her progress as an actor in Smallville hasn't been stellar either - but you can't blame the casting director really - she looks perfect in the role
This film although having a low budget was brilliantly done and looked beautiful. I think Kristen Kreuk was good but at times a bit bland as there was a lack of expression, I think she would of done better if there were more of her at the beginning. Miranda Richardson was brilliant, the mirror mirror on the wall bit was nicely done. The plot is much better and more interesting than the original Disney version. I loved the dwarfs and thought it was original and a good idea to have a tall dwarf for the miserable one as he would be miserable living in a tiny house when he is 6ft! My favourite scene was when she poisoned the apple and then changed very cleverly into snow whites mother. Overall a really nice film and one in my collection. I rate it 9/10.
this movie is really good. some parts i would say something like "oh, man... why did that have 2 happen?" because some parts are sad. but anyway, Kristin Kreuk played the part as "the fairest of them all" & there is not a doubt in me that she is the fairest of them all in real life, too! the director could not have casted a better person for this part. she shines in the movie, & Miranda is great to! i really liked this movie, the dwarves really added a special touch! :)
