Wonderful character development!
Undescribable Perfection
It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Couldn't watch more like about ten minutes of this. Jesus walks by Mary (Martha's sister) and she eyes him and obviously has a crush on him and he gives her a suave look. Latter someone asks Jesus to marry Mary. Then Mary eyes him again and Jesus looks but tries to avoid looking at her. It was just insane. Then Jesus makes a joke about Joseph not helping him... Too humanistic. Jesus was like a model off a catwalk! Yes Jesus was human but he was also our LORD and saviour and the Son Of GOD. Not a man from 1999 from America. The bible series did a much better job with their other films. It's a shame this so bad. I understand they wanted a "human Jesus" but they made him far too human from what I saw. This is not the nature of GOD. The 'Gospel of John" with Selva Rasalingham and Robert Powell's "Jesus of Nazareth" (not seen this fully yet) are more my cup of tea. The more "human" Jesus i felt was portrayed better in "Gospel of John" with Henry Ian Cusack. I loved that film! He was not portrayed as a joker or giving the "Oh yeah I have the life" type of vibe Made me feel sick. Total blasphemy.
I think that this movie clearly depicted the life of Jesus, from birth to resurrection. I think that it gave a lot more insight of the life of Jesus, and it gave me a better understanding of the significance of the laws God wanted his people to abide by. The laws taught humans how to be humans, and it continues to help people realize how to convert their negative emotions and consciousness into something positive. It was evident that Jesus' main priority was to try and install a goodness within people, he spread God's will and touch as many hearts as possible. Despite the evil intentions of others, especially in the movie where the devil came and tempted Jesus, he still retained a sense of purity within him. I think it was significant for me to watch this movie because I understand what my Grandparents stand for. I also used to think that Christianity was an illusion, as there was no verification of the existence of Christ. But now that i've watched this movie, I understand how much his teachings effected others and how Christians do not need evidence to know that Jesus existed, they rely on faith.
First, this movie is good for family 5 years old and up. This movie, Jesus, is a fresh approach to the life and times of Jesus. It is still based on the Bible, However, instead of making Jesus a "mystical Jesus", the movie depicts Jesus as more of a human with real feelings and real conflicts. The supporting characters, including Mary and the apostles also have real human feelings and conflicts instead of ethereal actions as in the other movies which depict the life and times of Jesus. The movie allows time for thought and reflection throughout. The movie also provides light entertainment and passive enjoyment. The cast did a good job in making Jesus an enjoyable film to watch. Four thumbs up.
There is no real way to tell this story. People of fundamental faith may see this as blasphemous as it does not follow scripture 'religiously'. Non-believers might see it as some sort of fantastic tale. Liberal believers may see it as some sort of entertainment based upon the four gospels. Perhaps it is some sort of mix of all these or more. For me (I'll declare my interest - I am a Christian), I saw it as an entertaining (as in I enjoyed it from a cinema-goer's point of view) account of what I read in scripture, giving it a realistic and believable feel. There is no 'over-piety', it does not preach, it does not avoid difficult questions posed by the many characters. Yes, it takes a little license (such as the romantic scenes with Mary prior to Jesus' ministry), but I can take that. I, the Christian, enjoyed this immensely (especially seeing Jesus laugh and have fun). I, the movie watcher, enjoyed a good, albeit difficult, story very well told. Worth watching!
