Just perfect...
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
I always loved Taylor Cole, i think she can as much a friendly girl next door or a mean bitch in roles... She got a lot that work both ways and her acting is very fine. Seriously i love this actress but even my love for her couldn't saw this movie from being incredibly dull. The problem is not the actor. Taylor as well as Scout Taylor-Compton did a fine job. The "brother" which i forgot the name also is OK. Its true the rest of the cast is bad tough. But the main problem is the plot/execution. I get that the plot want the movie to be a suspense of some sorts... The problem is you can't just focus on the twist at the end to make your movie work. Every movie that have twist gets an ingoing story that drag you in the movie and entertain you. Here its boring. I saw the twist of "they where playing a prank on her" coming from a mile away. Sure the "second twist" surprised me... but 2 secs of surprise at the end does NOT make out for a whole movie. The rest of the movie was dull...They present it on the cover as a slasher, yet the fake kills are terribly bads and the "fake killer" is almost never seen and i dunno... you just have the impression it drag and drag...Yes Taylor is acting good, and at the end somewhat you feel more sorry for her than the rest even tough she was the bad girls who made the prank which lead to her friends death at the beginning. But i doubt it was really the goal.In any case, a movie similar to this was made later on, which was far from a masterpiece but somehow way more entertaining call... Sorority Row. Typical Slasher with a twist but better entertainment.I do hope Taylor Cole get more prime role, as she is both a good actress and a beautiful woman. I blame this movie on the writer... not on the actors or director... The story was bad... simple as that.
I hadn't planned on watching, but it was a quiet Saturday night on Halloween weekend and it was a featured film on Crackle.com. I loved the original as a girl and even watched it a fairly recently with my cousin who loved it more. I never considered it a serious thriller, always a black comedy. BTW, not only was no one actually killed in the original, it was all a trial run for a mystery weekend (wholesome fun, people). This movie was a shallow, tacky, cheap rip-off of the original meets Dallas. The acting and cinematography reminded me of Skinamax late-night softcore porn, except the only topless shots were of a dancing, fat man. Most of the actors behaved like they were in a melodrama, although Senator Pete was consistently funny. I also have to assume the dog was meant to be a repetitive sight-gag, and I'm girly enough to admit that Josh Henderson with the pup gave me the giggles. On a side note, there was a shocking number of black actors used in small parts and as extras. I don't think there's any particular reason for it, but it stood out because it's rare to see that when it doesn't relate to the plot.
April Fool's Day is one of the better remakes that I've seen in the past year. This flick pretty much is a suspense thriller, rather than the average slasher flick. Yeah this movie had blood, sex and alcohol abuse, but it delivers a good message and thats because you are rich, doesn't mean you can get away with murder. This proves to be true when a nasty April fool's day prank backfires and a innocent teen is dead. One year later on their friend's anniversary, those Taylor Cole(WWE's upcoming 12 Rounds and Summerland), Josh Henderson(90210 and Step Up) and Scout Taylor Compton(Rob Zombie's Halloween and Wicked Little Things) and four of their friends who were involved with the accident, begin to die one by one at the hands of a mysterious killer. When you are watching this movie, you get to see the characters wonder if it is really happening, or just a cruel April Fool's Day joke. You'll have to check it to see. I definitely recommend it!
I watched this movie last night and I found it to be actually pretty good.I never saw the original movie back from like 1987.The movie is about a group of people who have a party celebrating someone coming into their rich circle of friends. The female of the estate that these people are partying on wants to humiliate someone, so she has her brother slip her rohypnol (roofies) and take her to his room and attempt to sleep together. She ends up having an adverse reaction and falls off of the balcony and dies. A year later, about 6 of the people from the group (including the brother and sister) are to meet at the grave of the dead girl. They receive a note about how the dead girl wants the person who killed her to come forth. That's when hell ensues and people start dying...I thought it was a really good plot and I'll watch this movie again :)
