It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
The direct correlation between this film and Men in Black is glaring. The effects, the hurky jerky walking of the alien human body, the evil bug alien - all lead me to believe the team behind the story board for MIB watched this film first. Also Kyle Mc's portrayal of the socially inept FBI agent Probably helped his cause when auditioning for his role in Twin Peaks
Don't read the plot written by these d!cks. It is better to go into this movie NOT knowing the plot. The Hidden is a wonderfully made sci fi action movie. It contains an excellent plot involving possession and mass murdering which is a concept I love. The action is bloody and great and a lot of people die. Characterization and acting was good too. And if you care about production value then you're a retard. Highly recommended.
I am NOT a major fan of action films, so the fact that I liked "The Hidden" is unusual. The movie is jam-packed full of explosions, gun fire, deaths and mayhem. But it also works as an inventive sci-fi movie...one that pretty much went under the radar back in 1987 when it debuted. The film has an incredibly simple plot...when the film begins, a maniac is running amok in LA...killing and stealing as if there's no tomorrow. Soon, however, you realize this killer is NOT a typical killer...he's practically indestructible. And, when he's about to die, a disgusting alien pops out of his mouth and inhabits the next person...and begins the murder spree all over again!! However, an oddball who claims to be an FBI agent (Kyle McLaughlen) arrives to assist the lead detective on the case (Michael Nouri) and they are the Earth's best bet to stop this menace.Despite relying heavily on action and wholesale slaughter, the film is intelligently written and original. It's also an interesting time capsule of the late 1980s...in all its awfulness and excess. Well worth your time.
Hugely enjoyable film predating MIB by 10 years and with a similar theme. However this film is deeper - 'The Hidden' at one level is just a body hoping alien but at another the alien possession is symbolic of our continuing lust for more and better things - plus the urge to do just as we want when we want that probably resides in most of us.Of course we do our best to keep these urges 'hidden' away but like the alien they sometimes claw their way to the surface.Perhaps a slight weak point is when we discover that the alien is an Altairan (like something out of a 50's SciFi film). In this respect - with reference to what 'The Hidden' really represents - sometimes it's better not to know!
