Best movie ever!
It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
It was very well written & the cast was spot on! It was a fun movie & kinda reminded me of a modern day "Breakfast Club" in a mild way. It was full of witty teenage angst & being misunderstood. I love Charlie's character, you really cant go wrong with Anton Yelchin. The other actors Robert Downey Jr.,Kat Dennings (amazing!!) & Hope Davis were also wonderful!! Kat is her normal sarcastic & smart self, Hope is very "Norma Bates" in her personal style, Robert was pretty good but not amazing. I still fell in love with the cast, especially the "bully" & well....all the supporting members. It was the kind of movie that made me miss High School...well, if that was how High School really was! Anywho I loved it & recommend it to everyone!!!
No spoilers in this part, no worries I'll warn you. K so I really can't describe to you how much I hated this movie. It was just so bad, which is a shame cause Anton yelchin is cute. Basically this movie is about a kid named Charlie(yelchin) who's goal in life is to be popular and have a girlfriend, even though hes unexplainably rich. His mom (Davis) is sort of funny, that's why it has 1 star. He gets a reality check in public school after being kicked out of private for making fake IDs. He gets a psychiatrist and decides to become the school psychiatrist having appointments in the girls, bathroom. Then he relays symptoms to his psychiatrist after reading a book ( cuz now he knows everything!) and the psychiatrist prescribes him drugs, that he gives to the kids at school. He basically starts a black market in he school and gains what he always wanted love and worshipers. Sounds good to you, funny maybe??? NOT. I thought the plot was stupid, but if you thought that sounded good it's not even funny. This movie actually sucks. If you ever have a chance to see it, don't. 1 star for Davis and Downey Jr. Even the they really only deserve half a star......Spoilers!!! In case your really not convinced this movie sucks, here are some reasons why: it gets so confusing when Charlie is arrested, the psychiatrist is an idiot, too many pointless scenes (and his movie was only an hr and a half), and the end it seems like Charlie starts a revolution or something, and I couldn't figure out if Charlie's dad was dead or in jailBye
If you cried over Anton Yelchin in "Alpha Dog", you will most probably adore him as Charlie Bartlett. As the title character, he plays a rich kid with a fantasy of becoming the most popular student in high school. The means he adopts to achieve this goal often gets him expelled from exclusive private schools. The most recent being mass production of fake driver's licenses. His aristocrat mother (Hope Davis) is left with no choice but to send him to the community public school. At first he suffers a culture shock and even painfully faces the school bully, an act that is now cliché in high school related films. A black eye later, Charlie decides to handle the situation himself, by setting up a make-shift stall handing out prescription medication and counseling those in need. This stunt not only makes him highly popular over night, yet wins the affection of the principal's daughter, much to the dismay of the principal himself thereby becoming Charlie's only opposition.A thin line exists between comedy and drama as the film deals with common high school issues like bullying, acceptance versus depression, peer pressure and ultimately parent-child relationships. It also deals with the modern crisis of unchecked domestic drug usage and substance abuse. In what seems like a career boosting role, Yelchin even surpasses Robert Downy Jr as Principal Gardner, exhibiting a variety of skills in singing, dancing and comedy, even show casing his abilities in fight scenes along side romance. Downey Jr accurately portrays an over protective father struggling to raise a defiant teenager while giving in to alcoholism, a parallel reality he is said to have finally overcome. This film will appeal to mature teenagers, though parental caution is recommended. Parents too can learn a thing or two about what their kids are capable of, if things go unsupervised. At the core, "Charlie Bartlett" is a heart felt story that transcends Yelchin from a child actor into bigger roles as an adult.
I have to admit that I first judged this movie from it's trailer (who doesn't?) It looked astronomically dumb. With some kid running around in his underwear screaming random things. It made me cover my face in shame. But when I finally got around to watching it I was actually taken back by how enjoyable the movie was. The movie managed to be fun, upbeat, and Robert Downy Jr. did a very nice job in it. (My favorite part was when he fights Charlie in the pool when he thinks that he got his daughter pregnant) If you are sick of watching the same dumb teen coming of age movies that Hollywood has made and you want a slight change of pace then you should watch this movie.
