After a group of biologists discovers a huge network of unexplored caves in Romania and, believing it to be an undisturbed eco-system that has produced a new species, they hire the best American team of underwater cave explorers in the world. While exploring deeper into the underwater caves, a rockslide blocks their exit, and they soon discover a larger carnivorous creature has added them to its food chain.

How sad is this?
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Oh dear. Back in 2005, two potholing horrors came out at the same time. Both involved teams descending into underground cave networks and discovering previously unknown creatures with a penchant for human flesh. THE DESCENT, a British film helmed by Neil Marshall, was a film I enjoyed very much and would probably watch again. THE CAVE, on the other hand, is a typical US horror that does everything wrong. Not only does it have a child-friendly rating, meaning it lacks the viciousness a movie like this cries out for, but it's happy to tread the same old ground without making any effort, delivering a film that's heavily inspired by creature classics like ALIENS and even PITCH BLACK and being instantly forgettable in the same breath.Right from the start I knew this was going to be bad, thanks to the jerky, frenetic camera-work that takes place during the action sequences. Now, ALL of these take place in dimly-lit caverns which are hard enough to see in as it is, so why did the director feel the need to make things harder to watch with his jerky camera-work? Another cliché that doesn't work. Sadly, though, the bad camera-work doesn't stop us seeing the APPALLING creatures, which are CGI monstrosities for the most part, with the occasional use of a model head that looks just like an ALIEN. No thought or imagination seems to have gone into these beasts at all.The script is dire, the cast boring. Even Cole Hauser, who has the most interesting role of a guy gradually transforming into a beast, comes off the worse as his sub-plot goes nowhere (I guess the filmmakers were trying to inject some menace). Eddie Cibrian has the right macho hero look about him, but he comes across as wooden, and the only cast-member I liked at all was Lena Headey (300), who actually has a little integrity (until the stupid twist ending, that is). Watch out for the gratuitous cleavage shot the director threw in in an attempt to draw the male audience. Morris Chestnut and Daniel Dae Kim are the ethnic types thrown into the mix for no good reason and totally underused.I'm not even angry enough to care about this film. THE CAVE is one of those ones where your attention keeps wandering despite your best efforts and the end result is that I had no emotion about it whatsoever. Just a bland, cookie-cutter horror outing for the masses, and one that misses the point totally.
I have seen a few cave horror films over the years and usually with such films you end up with a lot of shots where you can not tell what the heck is happening. That did not happen here, and that is the most positive aspect of this film...you do see everything that is going on. Unfortunately, there really is not much to see as this film is just kind of lame. Too long, idiotic characters and an ending that was just stupid. You will almost wish is was to dark to see as the characters constantly yell at each other. The story first follows a group of men going into a strange church built into the side of a mountain. They enter this structure and end up falling through the floor of it into a cave. Flash some time later and the cave is found again and an expedition into it is about to begin. They enter the cave and it seems harmless at first, but there is something lurking there, something that wishes to kill the team of cave divers and scientist. Soon they find themselves with no apparent way out and they must evade the strange creatures and their constant bickering to make it out of the hellish cave alive! This film might of been okay, but it was just too tame and too neatly done. Nearly every cave shot looked like a set rather than an actual cave unlike a film like The Descent where the cave looks like they are in a cave. For all I know every shot in this film was a cave, but all the shots looked to perfect and it made the cave look artificial. The monsters looked like the one found in Stephen King's Graveyard Shift and their origin was reminiscent of Leviathan. Then the ending comes along and is just another typical horror ending, but as I said earlier it was just too tame up to that point. Needed to be an R movie and that would have helped and sadly its best quality the lighting probably should have been toned down too to make the film look a bit more gritty!
Called in for a rescue mission, an experienced cave-diving crew in Romania learns their quarry stumbled into the home of subterranean creatures and are now tracking them down, forcing them to try to get out alive. This one turned out to be quite a decent enough effort. One of the better elements here is the fact that this one manages to wonderfully utilize the underground setting from maximum effect, getting a lot out of this one. The most obvious one is the rather creepy lay-out as the cave system looks incredibly well-done, being disorienting and unnatural-appearing as there's all kinds of nooks, crannies, crevices, openings and tunnels to really be as claustrophobic as it can possible by while serving as a wholly effective battleground for the different encounters within. These are quit fun here in theory, as the first battle in the scorpion-den, a frightening encounter in the open air above the inland pool and finally the massively fun encounter in their lair that really lets the creatures loose in a great environment to showcase their skills, but after that there's not a whole lot really right here. The biggest problems is the creatures themselves, as there's a couple issues with them as the darkened surroundings make it impossible to really get a good look at them being the biggest. There's only a small handful of scenes that actually give it away here, the rest of which are shaken up too much with lousy rapid-fire editing that blurs everything into an indecipherable mess. While the rating might have a lot to do with the lame body count, there's a lot here to deal with the large majority of time spent in detailing the mechanics of how to survive in the situations rather than getting the creatures out. It's not until the final half hour that the attacks begin in earnest so this one can struggle to get going at first. These do hold it down somewhat but the good points are still good enough here.Rated PG-13: Violence and mild Language.
This movie is a great movie has a nice plot and twists. This movie kept me and my friends on edge and the characters in this movies are also very appealing to their audience. The characters really make a connection with the audience to the extent that one feels their struggles and triumphs. The movie also has some good action in it. The cast is also very attractive which makes the already awesome movie even more legendary in my opinion and also according to my friends and family too. I also find it fascinating how scientist have found creatures before maybe not as big just tiny goes to prove that there just might be some unknown creatures out there... OVERALL GREAT MOVIE!!! Great for movie night with friends and loved ones (: I really really really recommend this movie to everyone that wanted to watch a movie full of action and suspense and will surely keep you on edge while the appealing cast makes you feel for them and want them to triumph the dangers of the cave..
