Ten years after the Black Death devastated the country, a poor family sets out on a journey to search for better living conditions. In a deserted mountain pass, they are attacked by a gang of ruthless killer thieves. The only one spared is 19 year old Signe. She is taken prisoner, and the gang brings her back to their camp. Here, she soon learns that they have a fate worse than death in store for her, and realises that her only hope is to escape.

Excellent but underrated film
Don't listen to the negative reviews
It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Norway, 1363. Signe (Isabel Christine Andreasen) must watch when bandits kill her family, she is the only survivor. The leader of the bandits is a woman, Dagmar (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal). They take Signe to their camp, but she manages to escape with the help of another abducted girl, Frigg (Milla Olin). The two girls are now on the run, persecuted by five merciless killers, across an empty wasteland...This is a very, very good movie because it keeps the story simple, escape and chase. There is only a small number of characters, and everyone has an interesting background story. For example Dagmar is not just kidnapping girls because that's what bandits do. We get to know in a flashback that her own daughter was taken from her years ago, and that left a traumatic desire to replace her. Also the historic setting is interesting: after the Black Death killed many people a few years before this story begins, almost everyone has lost loved ones, families are broken apart, it's a society in a hard situation. In a Hollywood movie, you'd get a CGI dragon, a thousand extras nobody cares about and a fight for the crown of a viking kingdom. In this modest Norwegian production, you only have two girls running for their lives, and it keeps you thrilled during the whole 80 minutes. Less is more in this case. Highly recommended.
I found this nice, interesting movie on Netflix streaming movies. Not much longer than an hour, and probably shot with a very modest budget, it is in Norwegian with English subtitles. The premise is as follows - it is set in Norway in the year 1363, about 10 years after the black death killed about half of the population. Now some people are starting to move around in the hopes of finding a better life.As it opens we see a family of four, the daughter is about 16 or 18 and the young son maybe 10. They are driving their horse-drawn wagon along a rustic rural road when they are attacked by a band of 6. The mother and father are killed at the road, the young boy runs into a pasture area and he is shot from behind and killed too. But the daughter is spared and they bring her along back to their camp. The plot is very sinister, the person who killed the little boy is a woman, and the leader of the group, which also includes a young girl of maybe 10 or 11. She was found alone after her parents had died, and now they wanted a little sister for her. But the woman who leads the group can no longer have children so they want to use the captured teenager to conceive a child with one of the men and have a "little sister" for the girl. The title of the movie is (translated) "Escape" so that sort of gives away what will happen. And indeed the teenager escapes and the chase is on.It is a pretty brutal film depicting what probably was a brutal time, but it is very well made and worth a viewing.SPOILERS: What the story really does is return its focus on "family", and it isn't necessarily who your real parents are, but who becomes your family when times get tough. The two girls manage to elude the group for a while and the teen gradually figures out how to kill them off. In the end all are dead and the two girls walk off, hand-in-hand, to start their new lives together.
I thought this movie was great. I didn't expect much. Just saw it on Netflix. No subtitles so I couldn't understand the dialog but I absolutely knew what was going on. Basic and brutal.I will watch it again with subtitles just so I have it well rounded in my head. One thing I will add. At the end credits song by a band called Bendik. The song is Aldri. "Never" I believe in English. If you shut the movie off before the song played out... Well you missed a great song. Go back and check it out. Being a musician, that stuff stands out for me and I'm glad I stuck around to hear it.
Well, after watching this movie yesterday (being shown for only 3 days, no surprise) I was not left with any good feelings, whatsoever. Frankly, the only thing making me rate it 5/10 is that it has some good, high quality shots of the Norwegian nature. I didn't find it particularly thrilling, and I could barely keep track of the movie, as it was so unilateral. The movie starts too slow, and ends too fast. I will not spoil either, but everyone in that cinema knew how the movie was going to develop. If you are Norwegian, and you just want to watch it, because it's Norwegian, that's the only valid excuse there is for watching this movie.
