It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Better Late Then Never
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
DON'T BLINK is a semi-decent cabin-in-the-woods horror flick about a group of buddies who go for a weekend break only to find the log cabin hotel they're staying in mysteriously deserted. The film plays out very much as a feature-length version of a TWILIGHT ZONE or OUTER LIMITS story, as the characters react in different ways to their predicament and some of them go predictably over the edge. It's generally watchable enough, evoking a good sense of mystery, even if the characters remain unlikeable and the script descends into sweary repetitiveness towards the climax. The non-ending is a bit of a cheat, too (don't go looking for answers as you won't find any).
OK, this movie is far from perfect hence my rating, however is it SO much better than the 4.8 is currently has.Firstly, the acting is good. So much better than I was expecting. I was also expecting some kind of run of the mill 'slasher' type film. Don't Blink starts the same as so many other films in this genre - sexy folk heading away for the weekend in a remote area with no phone signal, running out of petrol, wanting to get frisky etc, etc. Lets all face it we have seen that a million times before. However, this is where the similarities ended. One by one the party start to disappear into thin air. No murders, no gore (almost) and no falling over in the woods whilst trying to escape. Just disappearing.I was slightly disappointed by the ending, I tend to like everything sewn up and explained. I guess this is why the score is so low.Don't Blink is definitely worth and hour and a half of anyone's time just don't expect a masterpiece.6/10
Human existence and the inevitability of non existence...the ultimate ax killer in the cupboard slashing around with no mind or reason....Good concept as a movie, but poorly conceived by the makers. I watched this and imagined what Bunuel or Pasolini could do with this production team had there been a mind to create rather than follow the norms of Hollywood. Drama relied too much on music, and the characters Stereotypes. Major flaw , to me anyway, was lack of cultural, social, political context. This left the movie empty of a generic soul. And more cans gathering dusk on film archive shelves ready to fill the commercial screens of cable horror channels many years hence.
The biggest load of TRASH I have ever seen. I can't believe this didn't go straight to some obscure TV channel that no one watches. Whoever produced and directed this film needs a career change!! The film was consistently poor. No substance, rhythm or reason. However, the first five minutes showed a very slight flicker of potential and possibilities of suspense, tension and twists. Sadly, my anticipation died a violent death in the sixth minute. I decided to continue watching solely because I was a guest at my Aunts house and I did not want to be antisocial. No amount of her home made Sherry make it any easier to watch just a little less painful....
