The Worst Film Ever
It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
A high-school loser takes advantage of a favorable situation and repairs a very popular girl's car in exchange for her friendship for two weeks. He's slowly trained by her how to become one of the cool kids but things start to get out of hand, becoming too infatuated, while ditching his lifelong friends being something he doesn't think twice about doing. So, once again, he must change his situation before he loses literally everything. An average teen movie which presents a boy's evolution and involution in his social life that is fun and interesting a couple of times before becoming unnecessary awkward and predictable for the rest of the film. I enjoyed the main actors as well as the boy's character's but its simplistic plot lacked polish in many aspects, proving overall to be a mediocre movie.
Love don't cost a thing came as a wave of fresh air for me. I've always had a bias against American High School teen flicks coz i found them soo superficial and cliché.....but Love Don't cost a thing was a bit, just a tinsy bit more mature than that. There was nothing original about the cast or story line but i can contentedly say that it had a positive effect viewing it. LDCAT was well acted out and the cast suit it perfectly, i loved Harvey as usual...being his cocky self and Nick Cannon and the chick added flavour to the story line....the plot was the usual dorky guy goes cool and reverts back to dorkiness after he finds out that "coolness" doesn't live up to what its projected to be. It evoked emotion and thought...enough of it to warrant a watch. I actually felt the torment going through the characters lives as he strived to adapt to the system...and as i presume, a good movie is one that has the power to connect us with the characters. To cut the long story short...i think each and everyone can identify with at least one of the characters and i can undoubtedly say that most of us have at least gone through what is projected in the movie. My scepticism as to Teen Flicks diminished when i got to the core of the movie and without a doubt, LDCAT is an emotion evoker. It tells the story of American suburban youth trying to adapt and this can be replicated all over the world and in all walks of life. It was a good watch and i gave it a clean 8 out of 10. The ending was quite abrupt though but the chick really carried her role well...emotional distress and all....and as Steve Harvey would say....GET OF YOUR ASS AND HANDLE YOUR BIZZZNESS...my favorite quote of the movie.
This is a good movie. If you were ever one of those that were labeled as an outcast, a loser, a nerd, ugly, crazy, or all of the above when going to school period, you can relate to this movie. Nick Cannon did an outstanding job in his role as the so-called loser student Alvin. Christina Milian was impressive as the most beautiful girl in high school Paris Morgan. Steve Harvey did alright with little that he had to work with. I think the chemistry between Nick and Christina is wonderful and it showed here in particular when Paris went on with the deal to be Alvin's girlfriend for two weeks and in those two weeks, it became more than just a deal for her as she became attracted to Alvin."Love don't cost a thing" is a good movie, a realistic(if somewhat overblown, have anyone ever heard a high school team lose games because "losers" sit with all the "winners" of that high school?) look at high school and the most important message is to be yourself, and look at a person for he or she is on the inside not the outside of that person.
"IMDb is pleased to provide this forum for you to air your opinions... While we appreciate your time and comments,... * Avoid spoilers! Please don't reveal crucial plot elements. If you include a spoiler without warning readers in advance your name will be added to a blacklist.."Avoid spoilers? To the curious viewer and "IMDb" I'm Sorry If I'm too bold but this Whole Movie was a SPOILER! Blacklist it people from your 100 movies I must see before I die list cause this movie is Terrible. Not only was it a remake of a classic flick back in the 80's but the screenplay was bad, acting was bad and the score was..? ah.. well.. there was no music score. If there was, I apologize, for it was lame. The message of the film was? Well to those who have seen the original GEM "Can't buy me love" we know what the message was and this film lacked it. That's where my 1 STAR RATING comes into play, for effort put into this DUD remake. No feeling or relation for the main character at all. If you are looking for a good teen movie, try the original. BUT please watch the original first then watch this (If you have patience)and you will know why I gave such a terrible rating. "love don't cost a thing"? Production cost: $1500 :)
