Absolutely amazing
A different way of telling a story
Go in cold, and you're likely to emerge with your blood boiling. This has to be seen to be believed.
The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.
This is probably one of the lighter films of Hitchcock's. The main subject matter isn't intense in nature, compared to "Bate's Motel," or "Rear Window," for example. Aside from the sweeping vistas that this film takes time to really highlight in its long takes, the lighting at night and the "Worms eye view," (that pop up occasionally toward the end) are really some moments where you can really appreciate what your watching. Looking at this after having learned something about film, I can definitely appreciate both the physical color and the mood that is created through a combination of setting, and dialogue (or lack of it, at times,). Overall; maybe not the best example of what Hitchcock is capable of, but a really enjoyable film with a great cast. Not a bad way to be introduced to his films if this is the first one you or another person are seeing. Not to mention that the ending is pretty surprising, and chances of just guessing what will happen correctly right out of the gate is very slim. Something that movies made now can sometimes lack.
This has become one of my personal favorites: gorgeous actors, gorgeous costumes, gorgeous French Riviera scenery. What's not to like?Favorite stuff:Flower Market chase. Notice how the colors of the costumes and flowers conjure up the Red, White and Blue of the French flag. (This color motif is used throughout the movie.)Dialog:Grace Kelly says Grant is just not believable as a rough lumberman from the Big Northwest. Grant: "I must remember to yell 'Timber' occasionally."After Kelly and Grant spend a romantic night watching fireworks, her mother's jewels go missing. An angry Kelly says to Grant, "I called the police from your room and told them who you are and what you did tonight." Grant: "Everything? The boys must have enjoyed that down at headquarters." The visuals during that line? Kelly, who has been playing with an umbrella, unconsciously points it directly at Grant's crotch.Too delicious.
Cary Grant and Grace Kelly stars in this Alfred Hitchcock classic about a retired cat burglar who is being set up by a jewel thief who is at large on the Riviera.Jessie Royce Landis,John Williams,Charles Vanel and Brigitte Auber co-star in this 1955 classic. There is a jewel thief that is at large on the Riviera and all the evidence of his/her crime points to a retired cat burglar John Robie as his ways of burglary are being copied.Robie, who was able to escape the law, pleads innocence and has decided to find out who is behind all this new crime wave that has been happening. With the aid of a reluctant detective H. H. Hughson, they decide to monitor bejeweled wealthy vacationers to find out the identity of the jewel thief. No question that this has become a landmark film in Hollywood being the last film of Grace Kelly, who gave up her acting career to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco and decided to go into philanthropy works thereafter.Aside from that, fans are treated into a comedic and enjoyable film wherein the viewers are charmed no end by the good looks of both Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. In addition to that,we are also treated to a lightweight Hitchcock film considering as the story was told in a relaxed mood as compared to most of his films.Overall,it was an fun film to watch.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I starting watching to movie so I was surprised that I liked it so much. The quality of this film is very, very impressive. All the bright colors and angles that the camera provided really made me want to be in the movie. I loved the scene when the police and Robi get in a wrestling match in a giant pile of flowers and then the old women is so angry with Robi. I also loved the extravagant costume party scene. Everything was so over the top and filled with detail, which made me never want to take my eyes off the screen. Frances Stevens was so beautiful in it, but her character was annoying to me, I just wanted her to leave John Robi alone! The most surprising part for me was the end of the movie when you find out that it was Danielle who has been stealing throughout the movie. It was a great movie!
