Best movie of this year hands down!
It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
I didn't like this movie at all, sometimes I got lost during watching it as the plot was not clear, but most of all I hate its ultra-violence
Incredible! I had a doubt before watching this movie, however after watching it everything became crystal clear why this movie is so so good. It grabs your attention from the beginning till the end, and the best thing about this movie is, it is really natural and the way the actings have been truly terrific which grabs you in it and make you feel like you are a part of this movie, so detailed. Literally a masterminded kind of story. This movie will leave you breathless till the end, that is how incredible this movie is. What a direction, what a story, what a cinematography and what an acting by every casts. If you don't like this movie then you no longer should be watching any kind of movie. Perfectly executed, tremendous job done.
While stylishly shot and crafted (especially in its handling of the twin narrative threads) the movie is ultimately a failed exercise in exploring the nature of revenge as the characters felt sterile. When the plot and themes are as clear and straight forward as they are here, the only reason to take as long as this film does to get to its point could be to establish the audience empathy for the characters. But by cutting away from the characters' faces during the few moments when they actually betray any emotion and by relentless jumps in time that made the film feel like a bunch of vignettes, the film made me feel more and more alienated from them. And without any interest in the characters, the long sequence with (needlessly) large amounts of splattery stuff on scene ended up feeling tedious rather than shocking.
This movie is best thought of as a Korean version of Fargo. It has, essentially, the same premise and outcome, but is MUCH more uncomfortable and gratuitous. Those familiar with the director will find his signature scenes that have been immaculately framed, and some spot on casting choices. It's best to watch this movie if you're not the squeamish type, as there is a lot of graphic (and implied) violence as well as one particular sex scene. The characters' motives are established very clearly, which helps to show that no one is actually a "bad person," and the lack of a proper soundtrack is a good choice, with it symbolising the main character's deafness. Yeah, if you're a fan of thrillers, violence and Korea, this movie is a good one.
