Very best movie i ever watch
Lack of good storyline.
This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Unearthing an unusual Egyptian pyramid, an archaeological team and a news-crew following them become trapped inside the tomb where they find a series of creatures inside with them and must battle the eternal creatures and the traps for them to get out alive. This here turned out to be quite the pedestrian if intriguing effort. What really tends to lower this one is the fact that it's filled to the brim with rather simple and overused scenes that give this one quite the overly familiar tone throughout here. The scares here are the same type of typical variations of scenes with extreme quiet broken by sudden outbursts of loud screechy noises or totally unexplained moments of something coming across the screen from out of nowhere that simply makes this one way too repetitive and familiar. When it moves away from these types of scenes, there's not a whole lot of elements here with this one just not featuring all that many scenes with this one going for them just being completely lost and wandering around complaining over each other about the situation or just yelling out into the darkness which aren't really all that enjoyable to sit through here. That also tends to stop this one with it's just plain abysmal CGI that really undoes a great deal with this one featuring some of the weakest and truly unconvincing work here with the main creature as well as the subservient ones just looking way too splotchy and unappealing which really doesn't look good here at all. There's still some solid and enjoyable parts here with the rather intriguing suspense scenes in this one. This one starts off rather nicely with the investigation of the pit and the resulting trap they set-off which gives this one the perfect setting of the ancient curses so commonly found here, the first exploration of the tunnel with the robot is quite creepy and mysterious with the fine excuse for venturing into the pyramid itself while that venture inside gives this one some solid fun here. The scenes in the pyramid where they discover the secret life of the ancient Egyptians makes for some creepy scenarios that set this one in motion and gives the film the kind of atmosphere and action that really could've made this one intriguing, and the big scene where they get trapped inside the tunnel is a rather enjoyable action set- piece. Once inside, these setups become all that much more fun with the pyramid not only containing several enjoyable and logical traps set for explorers but also finding the creatures stuck inside with them before getting on to the other giant creature trapped in there that gives this a much higher and enjoyable sense of fun here with the enhanced fun that comes from the strong series of encounters found here which really gives this one a lot of good action in the finale where they continually confront it and try to hide to get away. It's a great sense of action that ends this one nicely and helps to overcome some of the flaws but not all of them.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Language and Brief Nudity.
The Pyramid is another in a long line of "found-footage" horror films that have appeared since the success of Paranormal Activity in 2007, and even though it avoids a lot of the downfalls of such films and provides us with an intriguing setting, The Pyramid is only mildly entertaining, only scary in fits and spurts, and not nearly as great a movie as its premise promises. The Pyramid has a pretty intriguing story going for it; As a father-daughter research team uncovers an ancient Egyptian pyramid, they are joined by a film crew who plan to document their journey into the mysterious site. When the crew is trapped in the cursed labyrinth, they must fight to stay alive and possibly find a way out of "The Pyramid". Of course there is not much sophistication to the story, but there is a ton of potential for excellent and unique thrills in Daniel Meersand and Nick Simon's basic script outline. The Egyptian setting is all but ideal for a claustrophobic, B horror movie. Unfortunately, tied down by the restraints of its found-footage style and its amateur talent, The Pyramid can't completely deliver on its promises. The acting is possibly the most glaringly bad aspect of the film. The actors are one step up from community theater dropouts, and their cardboard characters do them no favors. Ashley Hinshaw's heroine Nora is relatively likable and nuanced, but literally everyone else in this film is a cartoonish oaf. Unintentionally funny characters can make for a "so bad its good" kind of experience, but it neuters the scares because we don't believe that there are real people in danger. The Pyramid is also hampered by the restraints of its found-footage trappings. Like most found-footage movies, especially ones that were made that way because the budget wasn't high enough for a traditional method of filming, the camera becomes a hindrance rather than an asset. Director Gregory Levasseur isn't able to make use of the claustrophobic sets in any way beyond what an average person with a smart phone can. It simply limits the effectiveness of the movie as a whole. The Pyramid doesn't work as a found-footage film, and only sometimes works as a traditional horror movie. Still, the setting, story, and endearing cheesiness help to overcome some of the deficiencies in the filmmaking. The Pyramid is a fun B horror flick for those who enjoy the Egyptian setting, goofy set-pieces, and mild scares. You have to know what you are getting into when you see a movie like this, but I feel like The Pyramid could have been a much more enjoyable picture had there been more effort put into its production. Personally, I was interested by The Pyramid's story, and I had enough fun with its action scenes to recommend it to those who like this kind of B-movie cheese, but for those looking for a genuinely great film, The Pyramid really doesn't come close.55/100
When I first learned about this movie (seeing it available for rent at my neighbourhood video store), I was puzzled, because it was from a major Hollywood studio and yet I hadn't heard of it. Subsequent research on my part uncovered that the studio didn't give the movie much publicity or distribution to theaters, and after watching the movie I think I can see why. It gets off to a decent start - there is a little thrill by the setup of finding an ancient Egyptian pyramid and wondering what may be inside. However, after the first twenty or so minutes, things start to go downhill. The protagonists certainly don't act like professional archaeologists as they make their way into the pyramid, and they make a lot of decisions that would be considered stupid for any kind of person. The worst thing about the movie, however, is that it's not at all scary or even mildly creepy - it seems to be going right by the book instead of adding originality or surprises. It certainly doesn't help that the CGI special effects are really bad, giving the movie both a cheap feeling and a phony feel. So in the end I'm glad that I waited for a copy of this movie to show up in my local library so I could then see it for free.
I've been wanting to see this for a long time and finally got around to it. It's about what I expected, and that's good. The 'creatures' were a little disappointing at first, but I like how they handled the main monster by adding in Egyptian history and culture. The film is mostly 'found footage' style. A group of archaeologists discovers a vast pyramid buried deep under the desert. They want to go in and explore, but given strict instructions not to. Ignoring this, they go inside and can't find their way out. It's full of dead ends, labyrinths and creatures. If you want a fun cheesy B horror movie with Egyptian culture, you'll love THE PYRAMID!!!
