Why so much hype?
If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Another masterpiece in the tradition of Midnight Express and Ararat! Turcophobic hate mongering, this time in French. This film is so bad and so racist, I don't know where to start. The plot is absolutely ridiculous. Is it because Turkey has been knocking on EU's door for admission that the French felt a need to demonize them? None of the "Turks" in the movie even look Turkish, except the villager extras and the soldiers at the end that really are Turkish. But these are the only people that do not look like monsters. Well, they do not, because they are normal people. Why do all the racist movies about the Turks have to make them look dark skinned? Will the West never overcome its skin color obsession? And it's the Turks that are supposed to be evil? And why do they pick Arab-looking people? Why are they dressed like Arabs? Why are the Turks wearing keffiyeh? In Turkey only Kurds and Arabs wear keffiyeh, and only in rural areas. A Turk, let alone a Turkish nationalist, would never wear a keffiyeh. How can anyone even watch this racist filth? How can some people actually like this movie? Turks are so evil, so sadistic, all killers, criminals, drug dealers, all hideously ugly looking. What upset me even more was that the movie-makers clearly lied to the Turks which made the last small scene possible to be shot in Turkey. They definitely lied to the Turks that they were shooting a movie about a terrorist group which the Turkish gendarmery heroically defeats. Then they entirely changed the movie. The Turks in these last scenes look so different than the keffiyeh-wearing maniacs, racially and otherwise. The Turks must have been told that the terrorist group is a different nationality. Being dressed like Kurds or Arabs, they would never think otherwise. But I'm sure they still were not told about how racist it would be towards those people. The makers of Midnight Express had also lied to the Turks. If you will create racist garbage, at least have some dignity and do not stab people on their back.Technically the movie is a disaster also, but compared with the racism, it's not even worth mentioning. It's really worrisome how powerful hateful racism is in the West.
You can always recognize a good movie by these elements : 1- good story with an interesting intrigue 2- great actors 3- a few young & promising new faces in moviesThis one has it all. The views are great, the ambiance is dark, the dialogs precise & intriguing, a lot of twists and turns, never really understand how it'll play out until the final chapter is upon you.In short, if you like police movies with some political twists & some great suspense and action, you're @ the right stop !!!Enjoy this one. Peace
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I was slightly worried at first that subtitles were a bit ambitious for hungover Sunday viewing but it was fairly easy to keep up.The two plot lines seem completely separate at first and they are nicely tied together later in the film. This works very well at giving two sides of an event without resorting to flashbacks or spoon-feeding the viewer. You do have to think and pay attention to this film but it is not overly cryptic - I think I understood everything I needed to at the end. Some minor details might be a little blurry but these are not integral to the plot. Some racial stereotypes aside this is a very well thought out and captivating film.
Unfortunately as a Jean Reno fan, I am very disappointed with this movie. The movie has just created an imaginary world especially while describing the Turks. The mafia of extreme rightists in Turkey never live in kappadochia caves, etc, they might live in Bosphorus in big and modern houses :)). They don't wear such silly ninja like dresses or don't live in Arabic environments as seen at the end of the movie. The backgrounds that were chosen in Turkey, better suit to one of the Star Wars episodes :)) We (me and my wife) have just watched the movie with a wide but annoyed smile on our faces.I am not in favor of rightists :)) But the scenario and the content were so ridiculous that, this movie must be watched only as a comedy. The players' Turkish was also so funny that I had considerable difficulty in understanding what they were speaking. The story as an action-thriller movie (besides the Turk theme) was also unbelievable :)) How can Turkish mafia know very good french and know little Turkish? Sorry for all people who gave their energy for such a bad movie. The silly big head sculpture was another flaw in film. What was that? :))) Something seem to be mixed with Congo movie, or king Kong?? :)) Just awful work. Sorry. :)
