I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
If you thought Death Race 1 & 2 were preposterous films, you ain't seen nothing yet: Part 3— Inferno—is more outrageous than the previous two outings put together, with increased violence, numerous sexy women, crazier car action, and extra explosive stunts, all of which, in my book, equals a good time. The film starts with current race owner Weyland (Ving Rhames) being forced to sell the rights for Death Race to ruthless businessman Niles York (Dougray Scott), who wants to turn the event into a global franchise, starting with a three day race in The Kalahari. Four times Death Race winner Lucas, AKA Frankenstein (Luke Goss), is an automatic contender, but with one more win guaranteeing him his freedom, Niles needs to ensure that his biggest draw doesn't make it to five.Even before the race begins, this film delivers in the excess stakes with a wonderfully exploitative battle to the death between 16 insanely hot women competing to be co-drivers in the race; the babes go crazy with an assortment of weapons, but gorgeous Katrina (Tanit Phoenix) steals the scene in stockings, suspenders and push-up bra, brandishing a flamethrower. Scorching stuff! With it's cross-country, multi-stage, three day race, numerous colourful characters, and wide variety of modified vehicles, the film stays relatively true to the spirit of Death Race 2000 (1975), which for a fan of the original cult classic like me, makes proceedings a lot more entertaining. While it never quite matches the satirical heights of Roger Corman's film, there are some neat tongue-in-cheek moments, plus a truly ridiculous twist ending in keeping with the insane nature of the whole series.Throw in a juicy decapitation, a full body explosion, a gratuitous shower scene for Tanit Phoenix, and Danny Trejo getting head from a sexy African nurse, and what you have is a lot of mindless fun. Roll on part 4
Sorry for the long review, i want to say it all. Read if you want. It's my opinion, please respect it.Just an aside, I'm not coming here to say that, this or that movie was horrible and some actors deserve better (like they were forced to do it). I respect your opinion but I think it's more important to concentrate in what worked / what we liked and what didn't work instead of 'criticizing it at gross'. It's what I think. So the movie. Best part: Boobs and girls. Tanit Phoenix (Katrina) besides gorgeous, has an outstanding body; those boobs oh god ;). In every scene, I was like Lists, in the scene when she enters the car, staring to her boobs. All the girls that appeared in the movie are hot; the qualifying fight to death scene was very nice, because of the girls and the deaths too. But Tanit Phoenix amazed me in every scene.Besides that, what I liked also in the movie: some kills were nice; the all concept of race, out of the prison, more endurance and hardness, like Goldberg said; Psycho was a nice surprise, a funny psycho killer; the scene where he grabs his co-pilot boobs is hilarious,; liked the role of Niles York (Dougray Scott), the maniac who wanted more money, death and control. Also liked the story around Frankenstein, the man behind the mask. The deal and the plan made by Carl Lucas and Weyland was cool. What didn't worked for me: i would like to see more action in more scenes; Luke Goss is a nice actor but it wasn't at the level we expected for a character like Frankenstein; i really liked if Jason Statham were still in the role; characters like Prudence didn't added nothing to the film. Oh and the scene where Lucas escape from the missile (with the 14K help), how the missile exploded if it didn't hit his target? like the other guys, strange no? And 14K wasn't dead already from one the past movies? Some errors I detected: clothes changing in sequential scenes (I think they are, make sense). When they arrive to the prison, before going to the cells they have that fight scene in the tunnel. Katrina top changes from red to a larger black top. An 'error' that I think was forced. When stage 1 is about to start, the announcer says that the 11 drivers are ready at the starting line; 11? the girls weren't fighting for 10 positions ? Only 10 started the race yes, because one tried to escape and got killed before the race even start, but it was a detail it should had been corrected, I think.Overall, it isn't a perfect movie and not so good as expected, but I think it wasn't so bad as some people say. It had a story, action (not so much as expected) , girls - hot girls, boobs, a twist in the story; the ending makes me think what it could be made next with Frankenstein, if a fourth film were made.I enjoyed to watch it. It's my opinion, please respect it. Thanks !!
With three movies under its belt, we can safely say Universal has established a franchise with the "Death Race" movies. Who knew a big- screen remake of Roger Corman's apocalyptic 1970s B-movie "Death Race 2000" would do so well in theaters and merit prequels and sequels? The latest entry in the series is the satisfying "Death Race 3: Inferno." Many might see two direct-to-DVD follow-ups to a movie as a desperate attempt at wringing more money out of the concept before it dries up. I see it as returning to its roots, as the equivalent of B-movies these days are cheaply made projects released directly to the home entertainment market.Carl Lucas is legendary when it comes to the prison sport known as Death Race. He's been known as Frankenstein ever since his supposed death. Lucas is the greatest driver of the infamous race. When Death Race goes global, he's taken to South Africa to compete in a deadly duel across the Kalahari Desert. He has one win left before he and his crew are to be set free. Unfortunately, the new owner of Death Race wants him to lose on purpose or die. What would Death Race be without its most popular driver Frankenstein?"Death Race 3: Inferno" definitely doesn't feel like a B-movie in the scale of its production. Huge explosions and expansive shots of vehicles tricked out with all sorts of artillery give the movie a bigger budget look than it should have. You can tell director Roel Reine takes these movies seriously and pushes his budget and shooting schedule as far as he can when it comes to special effects and multiple camera shots.Writers Paul W.S. Anderson and Tony Giglio don't skimp on a sensible and engrossing script for "Death Race 3: Inferno." They could easily have just had a bunch of cars blowing each other up in South Africa. However, they didn't settle for that. Anderson and Giglio put some thought into the storyline and come up with a plot that includes some suspense and mystery as the viewer tries to figure out how Frankenstein's ultimate plan will pan out and ultimately work."Death Race 3: Inferno" rises above much of the straight-to-DVD fodder released these days. A good story mixed with plenty of destruction will please fans of the first two entries. What action film enthusiast wouldn't like to watch cars race through the desert while running into each other and blowing up?http://contributor.yahoo.com/user/849014/eric_shirey.html
The Good: the cheesy predictable action, and hot womenThe Bad: Death Race: Inferno... Lets face it, there is just too much that is bad about this movie. The acting is listed in most reviews, and in some cases I would agree. The special effects are kind of cheesy too. The plot? Lets just say a screen door would hold water better than this movie could. The plot holes in this movie aren't just small easily-explained-away-with-some-imagination holes... they are huge, gaping, WTF plot holes! The Ugly: I think this was the conversation that the screenwriters had with the director: "Hey, lets make a third installment!" "Good idea, how will it play in relation to the other movies?" "There are other movies? Oh... I think I can incorporate some of the characters..." "Ok, just pick two and lets do this!" Seriously though, if you think that this will be ANYTHING like the other two... quit while you are ahead. They bring in dead and escaped/freed characters as though the first movie never happened.Other Notes: This movie, by itself, would be iffy at best... but as a third installment, it looks like a desperate attempt to get more money out of a finished franchise. And special note to the directors and screenwriters: If you are going to make another installment to a series: WATCH THE ***** MOVIES THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO COME BEFORE IT!
