Good start, but then it gets ruined
A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
In Fairytale Land, the Wizard has a scale that keeps the balance between good and evil. The Wizard goes off on vacation leaving his assistants Munk (Wallace Shawn) and Mambo (Andy Dick) in charge. Rick the servant (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) is secretly in love with Cinderella 'Ella' (Sarah Michelle Gellar) but she follows the story dreaming of the idiot Prince (Patrick Warburton). Her evil stepmother Frieda (Sigourney Weaver) tips the scale and vows to have a Happily N'Ever After. This has no chance against the best of animations from Pixar and Disney. It's weak and doesn't look that good. The story is a mess. The irreverent take on fairy tales could work but it doesn't work here. The worst sin of all is that it's not fun. It's a lot of sound and fury without any joy.
I understand the concept but the execution is half-arsed at best. The writers should be ashamed of themselves. The characters lack direction and the only common theme I can see is cram as many storybook characters into one film together and watch what happens. Sometimes the anti fairytale can work but it has to be creatively done. For such a star-studded cast, it really should have been better. I'm super surprised that so many people signed onto this movie. The only thing that can explain it is maybe their careers were in a slump at the time. There are just so many could have been great moments but in the end nothing can save this lacklustre, boring pile of generic trash.
I see the movie snobs have been reviewing this movie too. I was tempted to over-rate it just to balance out the overall score, but I'm getting tired of trying to make up for the movie snobs scores. These people remind me of all the reviewers that panned Star Wars when it came out. Of course, it went on to break box office records at the time, which shows us how in tune they were with the general population. The animation in this movie was great. Nothing to complain about at all. The acting was on par with any other animation I have seen. People mention Shrek a lot, and I loved all three of those films, but the third one was a little weak, and I would say this movie was almost as good as Shrek the Third. The animation isn't as awesome, but everything else is pretty even.I found it to be fairly funny and enjoyed the way they turn the classic fairy tale roles on their heads. I also love anything with Patrick Warburton in it. That guy cracks me up.This movie is sure not a rip off of any other movie at all. I see over and over how some reviewers claim everything they review is a rip off of something else. I have heard this exact thinking before, usually from children.I won't go into the story at all so I won't spoil it for you, but suffice it to say that kids will love it, and animation lovers will get a kick out of it. I've had it in my collection for about a year, and I think I've watched it three times. Enjoy it, I think you'll be glad you watched it.
I saw this movie, and i liked it.. well it lives to my expectations. Story line is interesting and funny. IMHO its worth seeing at least once. Hope fully the DVD contains some other extra information like making-of Animation, story visualizations.. I liked the animation too, even though its not up to pixar quality , it lives up to my expectation, and its appealing. Certainly this movie goes in to my Home DVD collection. The story line is where it all starts getting interested. The scenes and plots were good, except some moments you feel the walk and climb feel little awkward and unnatural, but overall the animation quality and the Cinderella facial expressions are very well done, and it adds up to the personality. Certainly a good one to watch.
