Pretty Good
Excellent adaptation.
The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Found as a kid in a small boat, raised and trained by a very influential man, Peter spends his time robbing safes and evading the authorities. That is, until one day he meets a beautiful but dying young woman for whom he falls. It's a fantastic movie in which people strongly believe in destiny, that each person has one and he/she cannot die unless it is fulfilled. After death, people become stars and live together with their loved ones in the universe. It's dramatic and sad in its core but impresses through it's fantastic world which slowly unveils. It's a captivating atmosphere which keeps you interested throughout its entirety, but it has many moments of boredom. Also, the story is good and pretty coherent, but isn't very satisfying, a little more work regarding it could have made a lot better. Still, it's a good movie overall.
... but they didn't bring it up in the movie! This movie lacks background telling. The relationship between Peter Lake and his mentor had to be more described (10 minutes should be enough). The game of good and evil and its protagonists had to be more described in detail. A - simple - further boost in story telling would be achieved by adding some more scenes with Will Smith at the beginning and the end of the movie. Another rule for good movies: Don't waste many good well known actors (John Hurt and Graham Green) as side kicks with too few movie scenes - summing up only to merely seconds or some minutes of movie time. Don't construct one and a half love stories. The half one is by far too much.
Boring, boring, boring! I've watched some rubbish in my time, but this one must be near the top of the list. I do in fact know what this film is about, and I found that out not from actually watching it, but from the description on IMDb. The first serious problem with this movie is the photography - it is absolutely atrocious - this film shouldn't be listed as 'colour' at all. Nearly all the scenes are filmed in this gloomy dark teal varying to orange or grey. You really don't know what's going on at all until you get fed-up and turn it off - that's what I did. Russell Crowe's films just seem to get worse and worse - there was 'Noah', and now this insult to the art of movie-making. What next?
Where are the awards for Winter's Tale?? This truly is the best love story I have seen...almost,ever. In my opinion, Colin Farrell should have won the award for "best actor" "best performance" of the year, hands down. The reviewers aren't even close to getting this one right. This is totally magical, the soundtrack, the photography, the story, everything was unique. One glitch I noticed (after watching it several times) was that Will Smith wasn't listed with the other stars, in the "closing credits". What happened there? For the record, I think that anyone who understands this movie, can look around at other people with a little more grace and compassion as it is possible that they could be someone's miracle. I think we need to be reminded of that more often. I recommend this film to every woman on the planet.
