Memorable, crazy movie
Great Film overall
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
This is an extremely light romantic comedy starring Uma Thurman, Luke Wilson and Anna Faris. I watched this almost right after watching Kill Bill, so it was a refreshing change of character for me. The movie is about G girl, a super hero who begins to obsess over her new boyfriend. The movie is from Matthew (i.e. the boyfriend)'s perspective. Although their date begins relatively smoothly (if you can call leaving in the middle of dinner to save town smooth), Jenny turns out to be slightly psychotic. She is extremely demanding and jealous, and does not give Matthew his space. Matthew ends up breaking up with her and is avenged for doing so; super girlfriend means that she is double the trouble. The plot is basically Jenny sabotaging Matthew (and his new girlfriend), and eventually the other way around, as Matthew holds hands with G girl's arch enemy to put it all to a stop. The movie is a romantic comedy, and it is just that. The story line is fairly straightforward and free from convoluted twists or thrills. It's a movie that I would call just 'all out there', and is a mediocre recommendation if you want to watch something without any strain at all. I didn't find it particularly funny or romantic, though, and the only humor point was Uma Thurman's almost neurotic, jealous rampages. The characters lacked development, and overall, the whole movie felt like an episode from any Disney channel cartoon show. The movie lacked substance, and sophistication. All in all, something you might put on television as a background soundboard while you're cooking but it's not a movie you would spend time focusing on.
G-Girl (Uma Thurman) is a superhero saving the day in New York. Matt Saunders (Luke Wilson) is a mild-mannered project manager designing buildings. Vaughn Haige (Rainn Wilson) is his inappropriate hound-dog best friend. He starts dating Jenny Johnson (Uma Thurman) who eventually reveals her true identity. She had been high school friends with Barry turned nemesis Bedlam (Eddie Izzard). She started going out with other boys after touching a meteorite which turned her super. After a dinner with co-worker Hannah Lewis (Anna Faris), G-Girl turns super-jealous and becomes a super ex-girlfriend.This is a great concept but it's mostly missing the comedy. Uma can kick butt but she's not the one to deliver the comedy. Luke Wilson is forced to be the funny man but he's more of a straight man in a comedy duo. It could also be a little sexist that G-Girl turns into this crazy, jealous, irrational woman. Of course, that's in the title. I just think there is a better way to make this a lot funnier.
Look, up on the screen! Is it a bird, is it a plane, no, sorry folks, it's a dog and a very lame dog at that. In fact it's a very lame super-dog, that's Krypto isn't it? You see I'm a comic superhero fan and attracted by the title thought that this might be another entertaining spoof along the lines of "Mystery Men", but was I ever wrong. The humour is forced, the acting over-indulgent, especially Uma Thurman as the super-jealous heroine Jenny / G Girl, the special effects are just okay, the story is uninvolving and the characters a pretty unlikeable lot too. Besides the flaky Thurman there's also Owen Wilson's crude, sexist flat-mate, while Eddie Izzard picks up an easy pay-day for doing not very much. The film is aimed of course at teenagers which is probably why so much of the if-it's-not- vulgar-it's-childish humour missed me by a generation or two. In fact the only super- heroism here was by me, sitting through it till the end.
Matt(Luke Wilson)is a young man who hasn't find a right girlfriend for himself until he bumps into Jenny(Uma Thurman)on a train and the two hit it off as he saved her bag from a bad guy. As the two start going out together Jenny is hiding a secret from Matt. Behind the nerdy glasses, dark hair and horrible style of clothes that she wears she is really the Blonde and feisty superhero G Girl who saves crime and defeats the bad guys. SO will Matt discover her secrets even though she is a sex crazed psycho who is needy and possessive??Overall it was an OK movie not the best in the world and there's too much sex references involved.3 out of 10 1 stars out of 5
