Trailer Synopsis Cast

The "unsinkable" Titanic was a dream come true: four city blocks long and a passenger list worth 250 million dollars. But on her maiden voyage in April 1912, that dream became a nightmare when the giant ship struck an iceberg and sunk in the cold North Atlantic. More than 1,500 lives were lost in one of the greatest disasters of the 20th century. Now, using newsreels, stills, diaries, and exclusive interviews with survivors, Titanic: The Complete Story recounts the sensational history of the premier liner. In Part I: Death of a Dream, the largest ship ever built is christened in Ireland before a cheering crowd of 100,000. Witness the disaster this trek becomes as numerous iceberg warnings go unheeded and the ship sinks in the icy North Atlantic. In Part II: The Legend Lives On, over-packed lifeboats edge away from the crippled liner as a futile SOS signals flare into the night--leaving 1,500 passengers to a watery grave.

Save the Titanic With Bob Ballard
Robert Ballard has been living and breathing the Titanic since he was part of the team that discovered it in 1985. In Save the Titanic With Bob Ballard, he revisits the iconic ship in an entirely different way—from the perspective of those who set sail on it some 100 years ago. Ballard travels to the shipyards of Northern Ireland to retrace the path of the doomed ship from its very incarnation. Throughout his journey, Ballard is driven by one personal question—will the Titanic survive another 100 years? As evidence mounts that the ship is under siege by natural forces, careless visitors, and even rogue salvage operators, the man who found it teams with the families of victims and survivors to protect the legacy of history’s most famous ship.

Titanic: How It Really Sank
Titanic: How It Really Sank
The sinking of the Titanic was far more than a simple accident. It was a tragedy that could have been prevented. It was the result of a long chain of mistakes: a fatal series of avoidable human errors that sent the Titanic and more than half of her passengers to their watery graves. Based around the official inquiry held immediately after the event, plus evidence that's come to light since the wreck of the Titanic was discovered in 1985, National Geographic, in this drama-documentary special, answers the question: Who Sank the Titanic?

Titanic: Death of a Dream (1994) **** (out of 4)Mammouth, 200-minute documentary taking a look at just about everything you'd want to know about the tragic sinking of the Titanic on April 15, 1912. The documentary is broken into two parts with each one just as dramatic as the other and you really do get the feeling as if this is one of the most definitive documentaries out there. The first portion of the film deals with the building of the ship, its take-off and of course it hitting the iceberg and the panic that followed. The second portion of the film picks off just as the ship has minutes left to float and then turns to the lands where news started to spread about the fate of the ship. We then take a look at the look for bodies, the laws that changed and who was to blame for the events. The last portion deals with the discover of the ship in 1985 and the debate on whether or not artifacts should be removed from the site. With the 100th anniversary of the sinking coming up I've been watching just about every documentary I could on the subject and this one here is without question one of the best. If you've seen enough of these documentaries or read enough books then it's doubtful you're going to learn too many new things from one to the next but I think for those unfamiliar with the events this one here will come in most handy. With that said, no matter how many different books you read or movies you see, the personal stories of those on board are just as raw and fresh no matter how many times you hear them. Survivors Millvina Dean, Edith Brown Haisman, Ruth Becker Blanchard, Eva Hart and Michel Navrati are all featured in interviews as are Dot Kendle whose mother was a survivor and Frances John Parkinson, Jr. whose father was a woodworker. We also get interviews with experts such as Wyn Wade, Walter Lord, Ken Marschall, Don Lynch, Edward Kamuda, George Behe, John P. Eaton, Charles A. Haas, Leslie Harrison, Dr. Robert Ballard and Paul-Henri Nargeolel.Part one of the documentary does a great job at showing why the Titanic was build, everything that had to go into its production and then we go into great detail about the four days of its journey. When it came time to the iceberg we get all sorts of information and this is where the survivors stories are so heartbreaking as you hear from them telling their fathers goodbye and of course being in lifeboats and hearing people scream and drown only to then hear silence. The second portion of the film is just as good as we hear about the blame that was scattered around plus hear about myths a a mysterious third ship and the downfall to some of those who survived including Captain Lord. Hearing about his reaction to seeing his portrayal in A NIGHT TO REMEMBER was especially interesting. It's also fascinating hearing about the discovery of the Titanic as well as the thoughts on whether or not they should be bringing items up that have been on the bottom of the sea for all these decades. It appears that many of the survivors consider the place a graveyard and feel that stuff should be left alone. The documentary features several newspaper clippings as well as some beautiful drawings of the events and there's no question that this here is a perfect place for history buffs to start as well as those just starting to get into the legend.

Even after a decade this is still the best 'documentary' on the disaster. One thing to clear up. The first part was called 'Titanic: Death of A Dream" the second was 'Titanic: The Legend Lives On'. And together they run over 3 hours. Sadly, many of the survivors interviewed in this docu. have now passed on ie: Edith Haisman, Eva Hart, Michel Navratil. This is entertaining as well as educational. Great for the whole family sit down. So for those who may not be pleased with the many different motion picture treatments of the Titanic sinking I'd recommend this as a great alternative. Also check out your local library or the A&E channel's website store for availability.

ever produced about the titanic. I've seen pretty much all of them and this is the ultimate. It clocks in at 4 hours on 4 tapes but fills up every second with photos, interviews, survivor accounts, and model recreations. The interviews with survivors are a fascinating first hand account, and the documentary has a attention demanding narrative. This is the most complete documentary about the ship and follows it's story from the shipbuilding industry as the "space race of the infant century" to her discovery by Robert Ballard. This is an absolute must for any Titanic buff.
