It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

"Die goldene Gans" is another German fairytale film from not too long ago. Fiebeler, Brinx and Kömmerling worked on a couple of these, especially the 2 writers, but this one is not a great achievement unfortunately. Maybe one problem is that it runs for almost 90 minutes and thus considerably longer than they usually do. The cast is not bad for a television production. Hasanovic, Naujoks, Krumbiegel and especially Haase, who got me curious about this project, have decent bodies of work, but they cannot elevate the mediocre material here either. Over-the-topness and absurdity are frequent in these fantasy films for German television and usually that is not a problem, but here it is slightly too much for my taste. There was not a single situation where I was really impressed unfortunately. Not a particularly good watch and there are many superior of these fairytale films out there.
