It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

I found this film to be worse than the first one but again, the music was good. Why is bollywood making such unrealistic movies with awful characters? Kusum has psychological issues and in reality would be after Manu's money or would be setting herself up for a life under control. Tanu and Manu are bad characters yet the audience are being asked to LOVE them! That is what annoys me so much. Of course they deserve each other, but they could have kept Kusum out of it. When films promote these huge age gaps it makes me feel very uncomfortable especially if it is what they always promote! Kangana raunat is a very very good actress but is always being let down by the stupid story lines that bollywood churns out! When will we see realistic stories and see bad characters get their comeuppance!? Overall an overrated film.

Am I the only one that suspects Ranaut wasn't born in 1987? She looks old and tired in this pretentious mess.Maybe because her character Tanu is a demanding shreeky entitled spoiled housewife who not only leaves her friendly doofus husband for no good reason but gets him admitted to a psych ward. She then goes back home to party it up with her sleazy neighbour and offend her family out of ...who knows...spite. This unlikable and pouting character can hardly pull this movie past the midline. Then we have another hour to go with unlikely plots where Manu runs into Tanus doubleganger. You can stop rubbing your palms together thinking that this would lead to some major comedy or twist plot. Ranaut was okay in the first edition of what I might hope is NOT going to be a franchise, with her rebellion against her upcoming arranged marriage. The sequel should not have been made.

I really didn't enjoy Tanu Weds Manu. It was a movie which I liked in parts especially the friendship between Manu & Pappi. But it had a long drawn climax which was unnecessary and boring. So though I enjoyed Tanu Weds Manu Returns II trailer, I was still skeptical of the film because I also enjoyed Part I trailer.Alas, I enjoyed the movie and I will say it was better than part I.The movie starts four years after two got married. But instead of being happily married, the two fight which ends up putting Manu in a mental asylum. Strange but true !!Tanu comes back to India and resumes her friendship with her old flame, Raja. Manu also comes back and meets Kusum who is a lookalike to Tanu and falls for her. The rest is to be watched. The movie also touches on a lot of women related issues. The role of a husband and wife in running of a marriage, the expectation of having children after marriage from a woman, women education, inter caste marriages and finally the way married woman is seen in our country. Rai doesn't preach us on these topics but does share his points in a mild manner. Some of the scenes between Manu and Kusum & Manu and Pappi are hilarious. However, there are certain parts in the movie which were not needed and had to be chopped off on the editing table. The performance are the stand out in this movie. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as Chintu is superb and plays the Devil which such ease. He is joined by Shergill who seems to having a blast in this movie as they crack some great one liners. Deepak Dobriyal is back in form after a long while. And the rest do a nice job.Madhavan disappoints to a certain extent partly because his character is poorly return and partly because he sleep walks through his role. Physically,he is perfect for Manu but as the character he disappoints. I neither hated Manu or had any sympathies for him. This is however a Kangana show and she rocks it. She portrays both characters which such ease and ensures that we as the audience see two different women. Tanu's character is also not well return but Kangana smartly shows the selfish nature of Tanu. While playing Kusum, Kangana beautifully portrays her as a loving caring girl who knows to beat up a guy when required. Award winning stuff from Kangana. Finally, a nice family film and a clean entertainer.

Tanu Weds Manu: Returns is set 4 years after the marriage of Tanu and Manu and they don't seem to be satisfied at all. Manu is put into insane asylum after a tense marriage counseling which actually insane. Then Manu comes back to her home in India and just fools around with random men. Tanu is completely dis-likable in this film and her behavior is completely incoherent which is one of the main reason I don't like this film much and the ending as well which badly hated. The humor is witty and clever but the story is absolute nonsense and ridiculous drama which meanders for two hours. Ranaut also plays a Haraynvi athlete Kusum in a double role whose character is much more likable and is the saving grace of the film. Tanu Weds Manu: Returns is funny at times but that's all it has got. The story is insane, characters are obnoxious and the ending very poor. RATING: [2/5]
