Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Though the story is rather flat and filled with many stereotypes, the film convinces with great (known and unknown) songs and high spirits. Also the young characters, which mostly haven't played in other movies before, make sure that the scenes don't seem unreal. They make the film alive! In addition they are assisted by experienced actors like Yvonne Catterfeld or Pasquale Aleardi. At the same time there are not only songs in English but also in the film's original language German which produces a good variety. All in all it's a wonderful film to enjoy after a stressful day (like "Mamma Mia")! You just need to lean back and listen! And all the time you want to sing along and you'll see you do so! :)
