That was an excellent one.
Lack of good storyline.
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
This is an exploitative movie with patriotism being the victim genre made specially for Vijay's fans. Let us start with a base score of 10.1. The casting: Vijay doesn't suit the role of an Indian Army Captain. Vijay should sport crop cut hair style, non-colored hair, clean shaved face, no-nonsense Army discipline (instead of comical 'Attention' poses which is downright degrading to a respectful institution), dress as a Intelligence operative instead and not as a college goer and have a sense of for the Army Uniform (soiled shoes really?). Kajal just struts around in outfits and plays a dumb girl who is easily convinced into anything. A man would wonder why don't all women be like this in real life. The Sub-Inspector guy is dorky and dumb enough to accompany super hero Vijay. The dumber the guy who is with you, the smarter you seem. See a pattern here? Wasted talents: Jayaram and Vidyut. Rest of the cast: Nameless and without scope. -1 = 9/102. Storyline: Not applicable. I mean where is the story? -1=8/10 3. Songs: Nothing to write home about. The so called songs are below average in music and lyrics. I suppose people who initially 'loved' Kolaveri might think 'Google Google' is amazing. -1=7/10 4. Direction & Screenplay: Full of non-sense. 10% of ideas + 90% of crap to link the 10% of ideas. The dog can sniff Vijay's sister's scent when she had been kidnapped in a closed Qualis MUV? Vijay doesn't care that he just lost his mate from the same camp to a bomb along with 100s of civilians and MUST go on duet with dumb Kajal? The first bomber apparently doesn't know the full story but has a map with all the future target locations, the date and another sleeper cell. Whoa! This is no sleeper cell - its a terror network! You see, Tamil audience have not heard much about the term 'sleeper cell'. So the director plays the term like its a new trend. There is even a scene of a CBI director on a talk show explaining about it... When the girls are being held by the terrorists, there are enough bad guys inside that room, but not one to outside to keep watch? Yes so -2=5/105. Action: All bullets from Assault Rifles miss Vijay in gun fights? Superhuman strength in fights? Army men are not super men. Army men are ordinary men doing an extraordinary duty. -1=4/10 6. Script: Since most of the bad guys are Muslims, the director saw it fit to appease the community with a single 'tearjerker' scene of a Muslim father sending off his son in the Army at the end. Exploitative to the core. -1=3/10Yes, Vijay fans love to give 10/10 for his movies. Get 50 of them to sign up on IMDb and post biased reviews and rating and you are guaranteed an Oscar. Yeah right.
After a very long gap a Biggest Blockbuster from Kollywood. Excellent Screenplay from A.R.Murugadoss. The First Hero of the movie is story line. Vijay 100% perfectly fit into the role Jagdish Danapal as a army man. We can see completely a Different, stylish, smart VJ in this movie. This one film beat all his 53 previous films list. His acting, dialogs, expressions, fight, dance everything up-to the mark. He shows the meaning of MASS. His brainy moves & techniques to catch the villain are Extraordinary. The main plus point of the movie is Hero & villain both are equally talented. Full of twists and turns. Santhosh Sivan's cinematography grabs you into the screen and feel each and every shots. Another main thing is Mission Theme Music from Harris, that theme makes the scenes more racy. Kajal, Jeyaram, Satyan are perfect in their roles. Except the songs not even the one scene will make u bore. Dialogues about Nation & Army are Heart touching. Historical Hit of this film made audiences to expect Thuppakki-2. I'm Waiting for it. Hats-off to whole team. A must watch for movie Lovers. Don't miss it.
Thuppaki was an excellent thriller which was slowed down little bit by some songs. I think venillave song is not required in that fast scenario. Vijay showed his matured acting throughout the movie. Songs proved that vijay is the best dancer in the south Indian cinema industry. Villain vidhyut is simply awesome. there was no many punch dialogues in this movie and the camera work by santhosh sivan is also excellent. Vijay and kajal looked very nicely in screen and the chemistry between them was also very charming. Climax finished shortly but it remembered Ghilli. The main plus to the film is screenplay. Murugadoss once again proved him as one of the best director in Tamil cinema.
The movie starts of well & keeps you guessing till the end. It also has some twists, but this movie doesn't deserve 10/10. Why it's good: 1. To watch Vijay. If you're Vijay's fan, this is one of his best you can expect. 2. Story with twists, patriotism & Kajal 3. A good commercial story, though could've been better. Why it's not best: 1. To watch Vijay!! One hero taking many!? - Unrealistic sometimes, he works on some hunches, he can recover from his broken arm within 10 minutes, can kill countless armed people, etc. 2,3,4.. Watch it, you'll realize. I don't want to reveal spoilers. On the whole, a good tamil movie. But not a best thriller like "A Wednesday" as it is being hyped. This doesn't deserve to be in IMDb's top, having avg. 9 rating. It's worth watching once & don't expect it to be best as per the ratings. It's rated 9/10 or 10/10 by vijay's fans only.
