A waste of 90 minutes of my life
Yo, there's no way for me to review this film without saying, take your *insert ethnicity + "ass" here* to see this film, like now. You have to see it in order to know what you're really messing with.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
"Halo: Landfall" is a 7-minute short film from 2007, so this one has its 10th anniversary this year and it was among the final short film works by South African director Neill Blomkamp before he made the Oscar-nominated District 9, which in my opinion is still easily his best career effort. As for this one here: You get an impression of what a live action version of the mega-successful video game Halo with Blomkamp as director would have looked like. The genre is not my preferred choice and the story, if there was one, did not impress me either I must admit. Yes it did look okay overall, but this turns it a bit into style over substance. Still I think war movie enthusiasts and huge Halo fans can find it appealing, so these groups are perhaps the only ones who may want to check it out. For me personally, it is a contender for Blomkamp's worst.
